Where does this vacuum line pigtail go?

Seems to be specific to the JCW engine, my 04 R53 MCS does not have this extension on it

I'm at a standstill on finishing getting the engine installed until I know where this goes or what it does

Its very possible that you didn’t disconnect that pigtail. I know some people preferred to have the vacuum operated flap always open for more supercharger whine. If I remember correctly, some would zip tie the flap open and disconnect the vacuum line....to keep it open...

That line was broken when I bought my car, I removed the entire flap assembly from the airbox and capped the BPV.

like I posted in your other thread it is for the vacuum actuator on the JCW intake.

Since you aren't using the JCW intake you should just remove the T at the bypass valve and connect the short hose back to the bypass valve as you don't need this extra vac hose laying around being something that could get a leak and would cause more issue later.

I understand what you are saying, but after tearing my other mini apart only to find out that there's no pigtail on that car, I think I'm just gonna cap the end off for now. That way the pigtail will still be accessible if and when I ever find a stock JCW air box that the car is supposed to have.

I wasted half of the day taking my other Mini apart and putting it back together

It's a big pain getting to the single vacuum line when everything is in the way.....let alone trying to put the "Y" fitting back in if need be

That's a good option if you want to have the JCW airbox hooked up as intended at some point. Many do a 'flapectomy" and keep the flap tied open, or remove it altogether. I removed the flap, vacuum canister, and the round actuator completely from the airbox. Since I added the airbox, my car never had the T at the bypass valve or the wiring tied to the ECU.

I've read the flap was only added to comply with noise restrictions and doesn't open until4,500 RPM's. As an almost useless excercise/mod, I'm thinking of installing the airbox as intended, but having manual overide switch for the flap, similar to the Gen 3 JCW sport exhaust valve.

This is what I have on the car now.....I'm not a big fan of these so called "air filters"........even when oiled and installed correctly, this type of air filtration system still lets dirt past the filter, and oil collects on the throttle body causing idle problems when the throttle blade gets caked with dirt & oil

I'll be on the lookout for a stock JCW air box, so in the meantime, I'll just plug the end of that pigtail with a vacuum cap and call it good for now.....

I'm running this Amsoil dry cone filter in the JCW: https://www.detroittuned.com/amsoil-jcw-air-filter/

It might even work for the setup you have now.

Right! Oiled filter is too messy to deal with because of the sticky mess. Guess what, do you get with the dry filter? A sticky mess to because of the EGR so we can all breath better. My advice to OP is to keep an open mind, especially in territories that are not your expertise. No comment on the said vacuum line as I don't own a JCW or its overpriced accessories. I have very high regard for John Cooper but not so much for the fancy BMW boutique branding.

Why do I bother to post here? Good question.

As a retired auto tech as of late, I have been working on vehicles since 1974, I have seen way too many runability issues with the newer cars that are running the so called "high performance air flow filters" that you have to wash and oil then re-install back into the car.....all that oil & dirt gets caked onto the throttle body and in turn disrupts the air flow and causes idle problems, and then the check engine light comes on.....and then the owners are pissed that the oiled air filter caused all the problerms........I will never run one of those style filters in any of my cars, but in the case of this little R52 that has one on it now......I have no choice at the moment.....as soon as I can find a JCW stock airbox and filter, this "cone style" will get thrown away......

If it is, the previous owner shouldn't have oiled it. These should be the links for paper filters:

or

Not all oiled filters are created equal. Yes, there are a lot of craps especially the foam type. With good oiled filter, the oil you see in the intake tract is mostly from PCV due to blowby which always contain traces of oil vapour. Like I said, keep an open mind.
