Transmission Grind / Popping out 4th and 6th

I am getting a slight grind and sometimes a gear pop out if it doesn't make it all the way into gear. This is both in 4th and 6th.

Car has 46K on it. 2012 R58.

What could be causing this? I am thinking about changing the tranny fluid as something easy to see if it helps. What are the best fluids?

Is there anything coincidental about it being both 4th and 6th gear since they are on the same side?

Am I going to need a new clutch/transmission soon?

At 46K, it is strange your gearbox fails. I never read anything about that.

There's linkage on top of the tranny with bushings that wear out. 4th & 6th use the same bushing. Not the easiest to get at, but not difficult either.

If bushings wear so fast, this is not looking good.

But.... I believe this is just abuse and will never be covered by the warranty.

I drive it hard but never have ground a gear or money shifted. Unfortunately I am out of warranty by 4 months not by miles. I'll have to find a document to check this linkage out.

I did a manual transmission fluid replacement with Redline MTL and had no problems. I think you need two bottles totaling 2 quarts and it helps to get a fluid pump, there's one recommended on amazon when you look at the redline mtl and it works great, just doesn't screw on to the head of the bottle.

Thanks! So you put redline MTL in your JCW tranny? I was trying to poke around the forum to find the right redline.

Seems some do MTL and some put in the 75W90 LT4

I put the MTL in my 08 S transmission, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with the JCW one as well. I think you'd be safe to use either but here's a thread i found that sort of explains the differences between MTL and MT-90. From what I can tell there's not much besides viscosity.

Thanks 3lusive! Great info there. Will try and get some into the tranny this weekend and see how she feels.

Also looking to check the linkages but I cant find a guide just yet. I am going to scope out the R56 threads shortly.
