Are People Driving more Crazy or is it the JCW!

Maybe it is the aftermarket wheels on the JCW or just the badge.......but people cut me off, swerve in front of me race at every light! Last week a guy overtook me on a blind corner where there were double yellow lines!
It just goes on and on. Lowered Hondas, Mazdas, VW's all seem to want to get past the car as quickly as possible. I never had this on my MCS....well maybe once or twice in a whole year. I like a a race on a mountain road but this is not that......this is just CRAZY.
Anyone else notice this happening?..or am I losing my mind!

Haven't noticed with my 2013 JCW Hardtop. I think most people think it's just a regular MINI Cooper with a red roof.

Pulled into the office yesterday after lunch and get out of the car to find a cop parked right behind me. I casually stroll over and look in the window and ask him what's up. He says do you know how fast you were driving and I (lying) say no. You were passing cars like they were stopped he says but you did come to a complete stop at the lights before turning right. Then I then realise he was watching and not following me and as I had stopped properly he was not able to prove I had done anything wrong!

I guess people in general are a little more spirited. Just went through my local fun twisty road and they just installed bump stops. Caught me off guard but I guess I'm not the only one that likes to give it a go late at nights and early morning. That road hasn't had speed bumps since they put roads there. Sad but I guess understandable. I like that road even on nice mellow peaceful rides. Now the speed bumps.

It's happening in NE too. Had a Smart car roll up on my right wanting to play tag yesterday...

In RI yesterday a moron was so close to rear bumper we could have traded paint. Same idiot took exit into the city few miles down the road....

They say 10% of population ( one in ten ) is on some sort of prescription psych drug of some sort, probably another 10% who should be.....

- Reduce amount of distractions in your car.
- Be rear view mirror conscious.
- Go to ECS Tuning, grab up a set of outside left and right convex side mirror glass replacements.
- Get a dash cam that has removable SD card.
-I call the State Police and report really aggressive/potential OUI drivers, and seen a few of those drivers down the road after my call pulled over by the troopers.

If the speed bumps are made of asphalt, you can pour diesel on them and they will melt into the pavement in a week or so. This is best done in the summer when the days are hot.

Just saving wear and tear on citizens' vehicles and making the road safer as well!

Wait, instruction wasn't specific as to lighting the fuel or not. Asking for a friend. Jk.

No, you don't have to light it. The diesel fuel acts as a solvent on the asphalt. This works best on the narrow speed bumps, the wide ones would take a lot more diesel and if they are painted it won't work, as the diesel can't soak into the asphalt.

Just off the top of my head. I don't honestly think the road covered in diesel is a good idea on a number of levels but making the surface slippery would be number 1. I would just rent a bobcat on a 4 hour rental!

I was up in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago. Mainly between Exit 8 and the airport.

I suspect that most who are in to performance cars know of the JCW model so you will always get those who want to race you...

The MCS livery is less aggressive so doesn't grab as much attention plus it's less of a threat (with only 189 bhp) for the beat you at the lights brigade

Also my front end may look somewhat aggressive. I have the MINI pro splitter and the Schwitzer splitter. Think it might look too boy racer!

Crazy, Spirited, Druggies, or whatever; drivers around here are just plain stupid. Race to ever signal, chop you off or change lanes continually just to improve one spot, turn signals(NOT), tailgate(I call it puppy-dog-syndrome), creep at every signal(rolling into intersection), and while this may be on 5% of our drivers, their presence effect others. More crashes, more deaths, more freeway closures, and their lack of respect for rules of the road has definitely impacted our area. Answering your question: YES, more drivers are getting caught up in the stupidity. I raced for many years, but never on the road. I love driving my cars, and respecting others on the road means more than beating them to the next signal. We haven't talked about the idiots on phones or dogs sitting on their laps, or the loud music blaring. It's only going to get worse.

Crazy, Spirited, or Druggies that is the question: our area has for the last four years gone downhill. While it's a small percentage that abuse the road, they effect all. More crashes, more deaths, and more road closures. Racing to every signal, tailgating(Puppy-dog-syndrome), changing lanes continually to gain one spot, and the lack of respect for others on the road has been noticeable. Creeping at signals, running red lights, not stopping on right turns, using the phones, blasting the music are just a few. What ever is causing it, it's ruined driving in our area certain times of the day. Yes, some drivers today don't respect the rules of the road, and it's only going to get worse. I raced my cars for years, but never on the road. Defensive driving is at a premium.

I get it. It's ok that we use diesel to remove speed bumps, but not ok the say YES the stupid driving is escalating. Answering the question: yes people are driving crazy, and it's not the JWC. So post it or take me off the forum.

False alarm guys. Bump stop was only for some sort of construction. It's gone and the beauty and melow drive of the twisties is safe!!! No need for undercover recon work.

I never race anybody. I let them go and I have been cut off several times. I don't care about egos on 4 wheels.

I also have been followed several times by stupid Mini drivers on the edge of my rear bumper on freeways. The way to get rid off this behavior even big pickup trucks is to drive even slower and they go away. It works every time and it is safe to let them go.

As for speed zones, I have been followed and stopped twice by police cars since I live in WA for being 5 mph above limit but never got a ticket.

I believe they were more interested to check at the strange looking Coupe than anything else and if you are friendly and cooperative, they just ask for your driver's license and not even the registration.

I have an Escort 9500IX always on, on my windshield. This helps.

Years ago (20)I bought this novelty thing called "The Revenger". On the box it said "don't get mad - get even"
It was a 8" long black box that sat on your dash and had 4 buttons:
- rifle
- submachine gun
- rocket launcher
- nuclear bomb
There was something that really worked when you pushed the buttons .There was also a cool sounds.
Really lowered your stress!

Montreal... nope

Not happening here...

We have a lot of high end cars... Tesla's, Maserati's, Porsche etc etc etc...

and most, when they see the red chilli coming up behind them (with the LED DRL) tend to move out of the way without the need to hit the brakes or slow down.

In general, nobody "challenges" you here. The red light, happens once in a blue moon, where someone wants to run you. But nobody comes chasing you down, or even attempts to want to keep up with you in a turn.

Besides, I simply ignore them and don't give them a need or a want to bother me.

Cheers

FWIW my 1994 MR2 Turbo Black / Black w/ chrome 18" and no cat back dual exhaust, did entice more red light racers. I don't know if it was the era, or the car.

Maybe some folks are a bit passive-agressive....and the fact you have a hot car gets them going....
That and maybe there is a bit of "newer car" worry there....
But there are lots of good reasons to drive a sleeper....
Honestly....some of the crazy folks in the world are always looking for other irresponsible crazy folks to play with....wanting to draw you in. Keeping g a low profile is a good way to stay out of trouble....
That's why I was always in "sleeper mode"....when you do some mods to your car, be it blacking it out, or even tinting windows in some areas kinda sends a message....kinda like certain dress styles or jewelry in a bar....folks react accordingly.
That and somepeople are just jerks.
Good luck, and stay safe.
