Picking up a 2006 JCW today, this thread has me more excited than ever on the purchase of this future classic! Gonna have to find some R98's for it though... do they actually fit over the '06 big brake kit though?

What do you mean with the big brake kit? The 294mm discs with JCW calipers or something bigger?

My 2006 JCW appears to be totally stock with 17" S-lite wheels in white (just brought it home a few minutes ago.... but I keep seeing things like this: "Not for vehicles with 17" John Cooper Works Sport Brake."

Are the offsets on these R98 wheels that much different than my stock wheels? or is the ECS page wrong with their fitment note? Just a little confused on what wheels are compatible with the JCW factory installed big brakes... Looks like I will be playing this same game once my 2021 JCW arrives too! I hate the limited wheel options with these cars, but it comes with the territory I guess!

R98 wheels will clear the 1st Gen JCW Sport Brakes (294mm rotors) but not 2nd Gen (316mm rotors):

Thanks for that! Phew... so many nice choices for the R53 I'm glad the ECS Tuning page was to blame for not being fully accurate-

I had R87 (16 inch) wheels fitted with the 294mm jcw setup, even they also clear the calipers.

Found this list btw

R85 17″ S-Lite Wheel
R87 16″ Double Spoke Wheel
R90 17″ Two Piece Cross Spoke Wheel
R91 17″ 5-Star Bullet Wheel
R95 18″ John Cooper Works Wheel
R98 17″ Web Spoke Wheel
R99 17″ Double Spoke Wheel

I replaced the S lites and 15 year old tires, as well as the air and cabin filters. I replaced the mangled shift boot with the stock one off of my old R53, and I added a bluetooth receiver to the factory 30 pin Apple connector. I've taken her out for a couple of trips and she runs quite well.

I think I might replace the chrome grill with a black JCW unit. Other than that I've just got to get all of the fluids changed, maybe replace the serpentine belt and the brake lines, and she'll be ready for her cross-country trip. I'm really kind of looking forward to that adventure.
Cant beat a car in silver splashed with OEM chrome bits.....I'd leave the grille alone....Black grille would look out of place drawing ones eye to a what is the equivelent of a bruise on an apple....keep her classy.
