New R56 JCW and we want your input!

Hey JCW Garage crew!

We finally got some pictures of our new to us Mini JCW. We have this project in right now so that we can get more DIY content for the R56 model. We already have a great list going for the articles we will be doing, but we wanted to ask all of you specifically as to what types of fixes/repairs and/or performance upgrades you want to see us do that will help you with your future projects/repairs. We are listening, so please let us know what YOU would like to see us do. Looking forward to hearing what you all have in mind. And of course, some pictures of the Mini for your viewing pleasure.

Strange. The pictures are posted directly to the posting so you should see them right away and not have to open anything.

I sees 'em just fine. You need a little color on that silver beast! Question: What's the name of that color?

Glad they're showing up. I think it was a hosting issue.

Yes, she is very muted! I kind of like it though. Some red splashes might be nice though. If you have any idea on some type of DIY stuff you'd like to see get done, let me know.

Nice looking ride.

How about an article about badging, removal and replacement? I'm sure lots want to see the different methods, but you have a front badge that needs some love too, along with the fact you'd likely sell the part.

Thank you and yes! Great suggestion. I will add that to the list. If you think of any others definitely let me know.

I can see the pics now, perhaps the host site was down. The JCW looks great, some nice pics. I just picked up a very similar JCW a month ago. Going to be fun to see what plans you have for her.

Great! and thank you. Any type of upgrades or repairs you're wanting to know how to do on your JCW?

if you did a gas door conversion to the flat Cooper style, both Cooper and S owners would benefit in seeing how the swap is done. I haven't found any good how-to's on swapping gas lids for the R56 and would like to swap my regular Cooper door for the chrome one at some point. Also, installing OEM driving lights, LED DRLs, or perhaps fitting the illuminated door sills are all mods that seem to have lots of discussion but very little detailed step by steps. I know you're probably more interested in performance mods, so I guess you could start with some suspension and brakes if you want to reach the largest demographic.

edit: I just noticed you've already got the OEM driving lights, so I guess that one's out...

edit 2: you could probably do an easy write-up on the cheap and effective mod of replacing the old style JCW Aero front lip with the updated version with the flared sides. looks much better and costs under $100.

Just replaced the front brake pads with some Hawk brand pads. Very simple job. To start was thinking of adding some wheel spacers, not sure what size yet. Then the GP2 rear diffuser.

Also interested in the newer type front lower spoiler. I presume they changed them for the 2013 model year?

I like the idea about the gas door as I have seen a thread or two about the subject. I'll be sure to add that to the list. As for the lights, we could maybe even take them off and go through a DIY on how to put them on. I have seen plenty of threads on the subject of people wanting to buy/install them onto their MINI. We aren't solely focused on performance, but also very interested in any type of mechanical replacement that is done at a dealership. Typical repairs you see done to the R56 that there aren't many DIY write ups about, as well as some of the more complicated repairs where a nice thorough write up would be useful to pose as a guide during the process.

I like the lip idea as well and will add that to the list! If you think of more please let me know.

A JCW without Bi-Xenon light? This gotta change for sure, get the black one to match your stripes and light cover

Second you need to take off your JCW run crap tires and change them to RE11 for summer tires. You will be amazed how much different you will get.

If you drive fast then you need to worry about sway bar, lowered spring/coil-over, and a performance exhaust like AK

Otherwise I will leave it like that, pure and simple, just JCW

I like the light suggestion. This is a DIY project car, not a personal car so we will be tearing into it and writing up tech articles for people wanting to know how to do specific repairs/fixes or even performance upgrades.

I think that there's an OEM LED foglight kit for the R56 that's supposed to look great, especially as DRLs. I'm guessing the JCW fogs are the same as the regular car's. I had the same webspoke wheels on my 2007 MCS, they look great!

A good How to could be replacing the HPFP since there is a lot of threads talking about that but only a few how to`s, plus is easy to do it.

Thank you! Yes, I do enjoy the look of these wheels.
