Burger Tune for JCW

I'm curious if anyone knows if Burger Motorsports is going to make a tune for the JCW? The JCW is using the B48B20O0 engine. Will the current BMS B48 tune work?

I thought I had read somewhere that the existing BT for the F56 will also work with the fJCW, but of course, now I can't find the post...

I ended up emailing BMS and they confirmed it will work with the JCW and to expect about a 15-20whp gain.

I'd be interested in that. I'm past my break in time and even though the power is great, you can always have more, as long as it's capable of being put to the ground.

Checked their website and the esitmated gain for the JCW are 1/2 that what are expected from a Cooper S. Price wouldn't match the gains, unless some tweaking could be made. I'd have to keep my money for something more useful if that's the case, like a track day!

The JCW engine code is now B48A20B, same as the 225i SAT. It appears the "0O0" was a placeholder nomenclature as that appeared in the early press releases from 2 years ago. The core differences between it and the B48A20A in the Cooper S are the different pistons with a lowered compression ratio (11.0:1 to 10.2:1) to handle more boost.

In that light, the JCW can very likely handle at least the same boost increase Burger is doing with the MCS engine, if not more. The drop in compression ratio means the JCW at least in theory should be able to run approximately 3 PSI more boost than the MCS.

It's not 100% confirmed but it appears the upcoming BMW 330i [LCI] will also be using the B48, rated for 252HP and 258LbFt. It also states the same 10.2:1 compression ratio as the JCW. For sure I'll be doing datalogs to observe the boost levels in the upcoming 330i vs. the JCW.

I've seen at least one R56 fJCW owner used the same Burgertune on his car as the MCS and liked it. As I recall he turned down the little **** to maybe 30%. Personally I'm not interested in more power in my car but the price is certainly reasonable.

Great! Keep us posted on the difference you see/feel. I won't pull the trigger until after the breakin period.

I for sure would like to know how it all feels once you swap them. I got an email back from burgertune and they say as stated earlier that it will work with the JCW and you should expect the same type of gains that the Cooper S gets, such as the possibility of 30 hp and more torque. They just have now dyno tested it yet.

The flex fuel cable is optional. It's only needed if you want to run E85.

thanks knecht for the info, i was actually aware of it, I'm wondering if running mix E85 on JCW can push the stock engine over the limit, because it seems that is next to 21psi already with stage 1 installed

Here is a link to a shop in UK that has a tube for the JCW. They claim the car with the tune will make 279 hp.

Anyone heard of this or are familiar with these guys?

There is a guy on minif56 forum who tried it and dyno the car and the value are as expected. He thought was a very good improvement however he ended up removing it and make a custom ecu remap.

I checked Terry's dyno result with JB and I think is equivalent if not better and the JB is much more customizable and plus BMS is here in USA so I decided to go with them.

Not received it yet though

I emailed them this morning with basically same question...

"I am curious if anyone is running your new Stage 1 Beta on a 2015/2016 John Cooper Works Mini. I was considering order it from you along with the Bavarian Technic Scan tool. You allude to the types of performance gains a normal Type is is capable of. What would your expectations be with the JCW already being somewhat tuned beyond the Mini S? I noticed NM-Eng offers a similar product. They also offer a highflow air intake. I’m curious in your testing if you have seen any benefits with the new Mini Engine with the high flow filters? In my past BMW and mini’s I’ve just put the drop in ones except for an older 330xi but even with it at the time I don’t recall seeing much of a difference."

The response I got from Ando..

"Hi, It adds around 25whp over JCW. Haven't tested with intakes. Best intake I assume can add another 5-7whp."

25 whp on a car with close to 230. I JCW is a light car so a 10% increase in power will make it pretty quick! That power will not get you off the line quicker though.... but overtaking.......

Even my 2011 MCS can't put the power to the pavement through 2nd gear. I use the car for a lot of daily driving/highway etc. Having more passing power/highway acceleration is more usefully to me. Now I just have to wait for my 2016 JCW's to get on a ship.

I completely agree with you. Where the power is needed is on the highway and not at the stoplight. This has always been my concern with the JCW.

The JB+ has improved performance without significant effect on consumption.

Burger Tune for JCW

So, going back to the original question -- does anybody here actually have a tune installed on their 2015 / 2016 JCW?

I ordered it last night. I was going to wait until after my break in period to install it.
