Hello. I am a total newb but have been looking at 2006 Mini cooper S's now for a while and was patient. Now I have the chance to get a 2006 JCW. I have read a few threads but have a couple of questions. If the car doesn't have the JCW breaks, its a very very good chance it is not a factory JCW. Not sure why a person would get the dealer to install the JCW kit and not the breaks, but whatever.

It has all the badges, exhaust but I don't know about the suspension. Oh and here is one last thing. Please see the pic. I can't find any other JCW with a black "S" next to the JCW badge on the supercharger. Every single one I have seen were red. I will get the number's off the car in the morning and do the best I can with that and the vin.



Any comments are appreciated.

I just bought 2 JCWs (2005 and a 2006) both mine have red "S"s on the cover. Neither had the brakes, so I'm pretty sure mine were dealer installed, but it really doesn't make much difference (at least to me)
What were your questions?

Heres one I have, placement of the JCW badge on the grill. I've seen it on the right and left side as well as centered or low or high. Is there any 'correct' place for it, or is it just personal preference? Both of mine are centered (top to bottom) on the passenger side.

 

Suspension was either port or dealer installed. Easiest way to tell is just look under the car, the JCW suspension has red springs.

 

Black springs so it looks like its a dealer JCW install. I am good with that. Oh and that S is red. It is just a bad reflection. I have the JCW serial number and the Vin but the dealer wont give me any info because I am not the owner.

I will come back to this thread after I actually purchase the vehicle. Just waiting for the owner to get his ducks in a row. I am ready!

 

Even dealer installed springs should be red if they are JCW. If they are black it is the stock from the factory sport suspension.

 

+1 Black springs and non JCW sticker struts are either sport or non sport suspension. Most JCW stuff was dealer add ons. 2005+ was if I remember right when the JCW engine or tuning kit was offered from the factory , think the brakes and suspension were port or dealer add on at that time. Before that I believe it was all dealer add on and the price was a pretty penny back in the day.

 

The dealer should be able to pull the vehicle build sheet from the vin and you can see what was ordered...

 

2006 JCW brakes were part of the factory kit. Suspension was still port/dealer. Engine kit and brakes only were still a la carte dealer option but getting the brakes for almost the same price with the engine kit from the factory, probably few engine kits were done at the dealer level.

Yes. What i am saying is, it was a dealer jcw install since they are non jcw springs on the car.

 

The suspension was not avail from the factory, that was dealer only. I have a JCW (06) from factory which needed front struts, when they crossed my vin, the stock stuts came up. My JCW badge is driver's side.

 

Well, I got it. Finally.

 

I went to the Tempe Arizona Mini dealer today with my vin and new registration and they said they could not pull the history up since the car was never serviced there. I was under the impression if you provided the VIN they could pull the history from day one?

 

If you join the owners lounge you should be able to pull up the factory installed options. Also is it possible that someone replaced the calipers and
didnt replace them with the JCW ones??

Eh, question. You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about mini's. This is supposed to be (lol) a 2006 JCW. What is the best alarm to get on it. It has all the bells and whistles I wanted except the alarm. (Speaking of JCW, if I have the serial number of the JCW kit, how can I look up info on it?)

OEM is cliche but is it really the best out there for this car? It comes with an ignition kill if I am not mistaken. The key unlocks the car already and as you know, unlocks the back if needed and the car locks itself in a couple of seconds after you start driving. (Of course you know all of this.) These all seem to be options on alarms and of course i dont need any of that. NO REMOTE START NEEDED. LOL

Someone painted the trim white around the black grills. I wonder if doing the headlight trim would tie it together. Or maybe it would be to plain.

 

Then I take that as a good thing. The more unique the better in my opinion.

 

Is that an alpine white Z3 or Z3M? I've got the dream team combo myself and love it.. JCW and M..
