I hate brake dust!!!!!

Is there anything that I can do to stop the build up of brake dust on my sexy jcw18s? It's a daily driver and I just want my shine.

Changing to lower dust pads is the best way to reduce the dust.

Other than that, wheel wax so they are easier to clean. And don't wait longer than a week to give them a good cleaning or that brake dust can get stubborn, baked on, so to speak.

Tons of products you can use to clean them out there on the market. I use Griot's wheel cleaner... mild on the wheels yet makes cleaning easy. Spray on, brush with a fine haired wheel brush or whatever you prefer, rinse off.

I got the Black Star Bullet wheels this time around not only because I love the look but because I wanted a wheel that hides the dust well and stays looking great between washes without daily cleaning.

yes, it does suck for sure. our JCW brakes really dust. I put Poorboys wheel glaze on ours. Prevents the dust from sticking and it just wipes right off.

CR is absolutely right. You really have to keep after the wheels on a regular basis to keep the dust from building up....

On other cars I have seen these aftermarket, very thin "dust covers" between the rotor and wheel to capture the dust, but I like seeing rotors and calipers on my cars-would never use them... Plus, I'm not sure if those impede brake cooling or not

Maybe a coat of Ultra Ever Dry would help as well.

Brake dust will ruin a nice set of wheels if left on them.
When using very expensive highly polished forged alumininum wheels on my street rod, I made a set of discs that were mounted behind the wheels between the wheel and brake roaters to sheild the wheel from the brake dust. Worked great and made keeping the wheels clean a snap.

All well and good but I doubt the OP wants to cover up his gorgeous red JCW brake calipers.

Well, he could paint the disks red...
Just kidding, of course this would not work for those who wish to have the calipers exposed.

as said earlier .. change the pads.

with the right pad you see no dust

I use EBC red now and my wheels get dirty from dirt ... not brake dust. I can go 2 weeks between cleanings unless I have to head down a dirt road . . .

Yes disc covers won't work. I have open rims that show my big discs and nice jcw red calipers. Ill try the protectant and see if that helps slow the build up

Possibly do Wheel wax if you don't want to change out your pads. +1 on the EBCs if you want less dust and new upgraded pads.

Or

Gen 1 JCW brakes. EBC red set : front and rear.

What 18" JCW wheels are you running? I have noticed that the black wheel tend to hide the brake dust much better. Any MINI wheel with a matt finish, seems to show the least amount of brake dust.

Thanks and good luck.

I have the JCW 18's on my GP and find that using wheel wax on the silver parts works well. The remaining parts of the wheel are matte black (AKA dirt color) and dusting the wheels with a microfiber duster every other day seems to keep them looking OK. I'm running the standard factory pads.

Volvos dust worse than any car I've ever owned. On my wife's C70, I use Akebono Euro low dust brake pads, apply Wheel Wax every 3 months and spray on Michelin Brake Dust Repellant every time I wash the car. The wheels no longer show dust.

Switching to some EBC Redstuff pads is a great option to reduce the dust.

Then to clean the wheels we've found the Sonax wheel cleaner to work the best and easiest to use.

If you have a pressure washer handy it does wonders for removing brake dust. Just be careful!

I recently went to Akebono Ceramic Pads on my car. Dusting was cut by about 80% for me.

new brake pads with ceramic will remedy your brake dust issue. these can be found at just about aby mfr. they leave an insignificant amount of beige dust which comes off with very little effort. besides the OEM pads that leave the thick black nastiness are corrosive to the wheels' finish and metal structure

Best thing I've found is Armor All brake dust defender! I tried it on a whim and I'm 100% SOLD forever!

I have white wheels. The first time I used it I washed the car, sprayed it on as the directions said then the next day I drove from Middle Ga to The Dragon, 4 dragon runs, and all the way back, looked then next morning...wheels were still as white as when I left.

I used this...

Get yourself

CQuartz Dlux Plastic, Rubber and Alloy Coating

It's greatest side benefit, is that it does not attract dust nor dirt. I have used this product on my Wheels, and plastic (engine bay too) and like the CarPro Cquartz UK edition for the body work... it protects, seals, makes washing and maintenance easier and best of all, it does not do like waxes and sealer do and attract dust and dirt.

Cheers
