Jcw countryman brake upgrades

Hi motor-ers,
I have ordered my second Mini Cooper last week, and this time is going to be a jcw countryman as we are expecting a boy this August.

So long story short, I been reading posts from forum to forums saying that the jcw countryman does not equiped with the jcw style brembo front brake kits, it was a little bit disappointment, but not enough to ruin my passion about the minis. So I am considering a brake upgrade once I get the delivery of my jcw in August.

After googling, I have come down to these two options,

1) brembo gt ~$3000
http://www.carid.com/2013-mini-count...t-4259101.html

2) Tce performance wilwood $1400 to 1800
http://www.tceperformanceproducts.co...-mini/kits-26/

3) any other recommended options?

So my question is, for the bang of the money and most reliable, which kit suits the countryman the best. Given that I do not auto-x or track my minis, just to give the car a little bit more of braking bites

In addition, where can I get these brakes cheaper?

Thanks for reading

-Calvin

I think Wilwood makes a brake kit for the CM's. I don't do any tracking so the stock JCW brakes are fine for me. I am disappointed that they don't come with the monoblock calipers like the other JCW models too.

These won't fit on the JCW CM's? I think he has them on an All4.

I'll confess I don't know all things CM...but the kits he's running in those pics are my 14/13 kits. I don't know of or heard of any fitment issues with regard to 2x or 4x fit. All the same to me.

Happy to help. Been neglecting the CM a bit of late. I think there's a bit more of a market for things but its not yet on par with the R53 for sure.

*********** Also added that the kit now includes the required parking brake cable kit. Price bump as part of that.

I thnk I will order it from tce when my jcw CM arrives.

Does CM = Countryman JCW without ALL4?

Or are you talking R61 (Paceman). Just clearing up terminology or not.

Now off to view the R61 postings.

How does the JCW brakes differ from the normal CTM? A different brake pad? or something? (other than being painted in red)

Can i just swap my S brake pads for the jcw brake pads and get an increased brake performance??

This post confuses me. According to the MINIUSA website, the John Cooper Works Countryman comes with JCW Brembo brakes in the front. The only JCW R60/61 I have seen in person was a Paceman, and it definitely had the Brembos in the front. Is there a reliable source stating that the Countryman JCW brakes are different?

I have tested drove the jcw countryman and the all4 today again today. And yes, is it true that the jcw cm brakes a lot better than the regular S all4.

Wierd, aside from the painted calipers, they look similar, maybe a different brake pad compound?

There's clearly misleading information between the real product and the brochure. I asked the mini dealer today during visit about the brakes, they told me the cm jcw version comes standard with brembo brakes, but based on my close observation on the brake, they look nothing like the brembo brakes on the other jcw lineup.

Regardless the "look" of these brakes, they brake a lot better!

But for the technical details, I will leave it to the experts.

They may not look like what you expect Brembo brakes to look like, but Brembo makes a lot of OEM brake products for various manufacturers. I would expect that if MINI states that they are Brembo brakes I'm certain they are manufactured by Brembo. I am having a hard time finding technical details, such as rotor size.

If you go here: http://www.miniusa.com/#/jcw/JOHN_COOPER_WORKS-m
Click on features and specs and then follow the "all features" link, it opens up a grid that shows the Brembo front brake calipers are part of the JCW package.

Car and Driver has some other specs regarding brake rotor size and other things here:

But they're not the monoblock calipers we come to expect from a JCW, they seem to still be 2-pot floating caliper design, same as the regular S All4. Disk size seems to be the same (12.1") as well. So, what is the difference aside from the painted ones?

The part numbers are exactly the same for the Cooper S CM & JCW CM brake disc and pads.. The calipers look like they are the old R53 JCW ones (now standard on R56 hatch) - they are pretty bad even on a car that weighs a lot less!

then why does a VM JCW brakes a lot better than an ALL4 CM-S then if the hardware is the same?
