CAI Recommendations?

Hi All,

Looking to cut my teeth on modding the JCW (2012, N14). Any recs on CAI? Evaluation of product quality, fit, performance, sound? I was looking at the one from NM Engineering...

Thanks!

DoS (Defenders of Speed). Have had mine on for about a year now. I don't want to speak for NAM on this one, but from what I've read a general consensus is that the stock JCW box and the DoS are the best intakes. It involves modding the bulkhead (cutting a hole in it) but allows it to utilize cowl induction. Makes a heck of a sound too. I installed it myself and wasn't too difficult with the included directions.

Defenders of Speed. A true cold air intake. It DOES utilize cowl induction like 60's muscle cars. The DDM Race intake does and there is one other but any intake that utilizes an open filter in the engine compartment is a hot/warm air intake. The sound is also AWESOME! Go DoS.

I'm actually getting the new GP which has the same engine and will be putting the old Stage one JCW intake on it. Otherwise I would just stay on the cheap side with the DDM street intake, as intakes just don't make the power.

However they do make some and help the whole system if they provide cold air...

Once my warranty is out if my car hasn't sold yet M7 AGS-R is for me . not saying its better but there is some nice science behind it especially if your running a functional scoop. plus it looks bad to the bone.

WMW - Can you explain how the old stage 1 JCW intake is better than the intake on the GP? Thanks.

Thanks all!

Any simple upgrades (that would be worth it) to make to the stock box in the JCW (2012)?

Trying to avoid cutting, etc., still have a lot left on warranty...

There's not much you can do to a stock CAI. In fact, CAIs don't do much (they do help though) in terms of power output or potential power output on cars with forced induction. Where forced induction cars see gains is through tuning and a good exhaust set up. Intercoolers help a bit too, but not as significantly as an exhaust sytem + tune. I'm sure since you're since under warranty those two things aren't really options at the moment. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer on this one. Maybe run some higher octane or get octane booster for a couple extra hp??? That's my only suggestion at this point.

@solskjaer1999--Good point.

Maybe best to first dump runflats and get a proper set of tires and leave ECU, intake, and downpipes for after warranty...
