JCW GP Parts - How to find part numbers?
GP Parts - How to find part numbers?
I see some slick bits on the new GP model (brakes most interesting to me), and want to know how much some of them are. I don't see any parts for the JCW GP listed anywhere, let alone for sale. How does one go about tracking them down and purchasing them?

The new GP hasn't been delivered yet in the US, and it might not even be in the MINIUSA parts catalog yet. You'll have to check the newest parts catalog, which basically means visiting the dealer or registering on minitis.com.
Even if it's listed in the catalog, new parts often take a long time before they are stocked and actually become available. When the R56 was first introduced, many replacement parts were backordered for months. With the new GP, some parts might be made exclusive to GP owners by VIN, as was the case with the old GP.

As with the previous GP, they may not allow you to buy the new GP special parts without being an owner of a GP. That's what they did with the first GP, we even had to send them pics of the broken parts when we did get them. Rumor was they were afraid people would make GP clones.
This is also part of the reason we ordered the new GP, we hope that since we will own one we will be able to get these special parts you guys want.

To find the parts, look up a current european JCW, eg a november 2012 build
http://realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kin...ering=L&arch=0
Now browse the parts. For any part that is common to the JCW and GP just the standard JCW part will be listed. For parts that are different, 2 parts will be listed.
For example if you go to brakes (34), then front wheel brake - brake pad sensor (34.05) it takes you here
http://realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?mo...92&hg=34&fg=05
click on the second pic and it takes your here

You will see there are two entries for 01 caliper housing. At the top there is an entry "for vehicles with john cooper works GP" which is the GP part. Below this there is a second 01 part which simply says caliper housing, and this is the standard JCW part.
By trawling through the entire parts register you can find every single orderable part that is different on GP. Any part that is different for the GP will have "for vehicles with john cooper works GP" written before them.
If you get the part number, then theoretically they are orderable through BMW, although I don't know the availability through BMW USA.
I must have too much time on my hands and have gone through everything. There is nothing in there that surprised me. All the expected parts are differnent, eg brakes, wheels, bodywork, suspension etc. I was interested if there were any "hidden" differences, eg engine internals, radiator, intercooler, etc, but it seems not!

Andrew-
I was just looking at the schematics, but can't find the front underbody tray. I remember it is buried under a sub name...any thoughts? Thanks!
