Installed Saikou Michi catch tank today.

I installed this today in about 20 minutes.
Quality made and functional catch can. They have a dual can for 2nd. Gen. Mini also that is sweet.

Looks great, but on our model it is really not needed IMO. On the turbo model it should be a requirement.

Well, before installing it I removed the intercooler to clean it out and there was some little puddles of oil in the boots, thats good enough reason for me.

My intercooler gets oil through it as well. When I swapped out my OEM boots the drivers side one was FULL of oil. I have seen it on other R53's as well.

i have a little water bottle ive been "saving" my OCC drippings from. ive had my OCC in for, maybe a year? and the bottle is only 1/3 full at worst. (will take some pics tonight)

i really only see oil in the CC if i really wail on the car, (WOT), and were still only talking a couple of tea-spoons full after a month +.

now, i will say that is not Just oil: it looks quite dark, much much darker than oil, and smells like Gas. so, it must be gassy-dirty-oil blow by from the PCV valve. i reckon it mostly gets burned up in the engine, bc when i cleaned my IC, there was very very little oil in it, not even a tea-spoon. I just just rather not burn that crap in the engine. its NOT clean air, or clean fuel, so it will hinder ever so slightly, performance. but that figure is probably in the 1-3% range.

so, OCC: pointless = no. useful = maybe. required = def not.
i wouldnt spend more than $20 on one. I used one of those filters for air compressors, that pulls water out of the air, put some COPPER wool inside.

NEVER EVER use STEEL WOOL! (only reason i scream it, is bc ive seen ppl post to use that stuff)
Steel + Moisture + oxygen = RUST!
Rust + engine = BAD News!

Hey Slayer, Old thread I know, but I'm looking at Saikou Michi's website and they don't have any catch cans for R53(W11) engines.

It appears to me that the generic one, "S1-OCC" would work on an R53.

Give them a call or text them, it's been so long and I can't find my original info. on it. I originally texted them and told him I had seen one on a R53 and he had all info and specs on it for me quick.

I figure it is required over here. The problem is it has to coat the inside of the IC before it starts to pool, which acts as an insulator. I regularly drive in 100f air temp (and 160f+ tarmac) and I really need to maximise heat transfer out of the charge air!

Keeping the oil out of the IC is definitely a good idea in hot climates.
