2006 R53 JCW 210 hp kit - 1st Dyno Run

Hey Everyone,

I'm taking my 2006 R53 JCW to the dyno for the first time on Oct 27.

I have a few questions for you:

1) What can I expect in general?
2) What figures can I expect to see and for what? (sorry for the amateur questions...never been to or participated in a dyno before).
3) Where should the MINI be strapped down at? I'm asking because a gentleman that I with with has an M5 and when he took it to the dyno they tried to strap it down by the control arms and he had them strap it by the frame (forget the exact spot).
4) Will I see the 210 hp number anywhere on the run results?

I guess I'm really asking for any info, knowledge, and guidance I can get from anyone.

Thanks so much, everyone! I really appreciate it!

Quadrivium10

P.S. - I did do a few different searches on NAM before making this thread....I may have been searching under the wrong terms...sorry in advance if I did. Thanks!

Never had mine dyno'd, but you will not see 210. That's crank HP and even that will vary. I believe 165 to 180 at the front wheels is the range, or there'bouts.

Do NOT allow them to strap it down by the control arms. Period. They're not that strong and can be bent. Beyond that I can't help. But whatever they do, make absolutely sure they know what the hell they're doing. (search uTube for great videos of cars coming off the dyno under power.)

Oh, and make sure it's in good tune with the best synthetic oil in it before you make your run.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I'm taking the MINI to the dealership that installed my tuning kit for an oil change/check-up this Saturday. I believe they are hosting the dyno run as will.

Another question....do you know where the best place on the frame is to strap the MINI to the dyno to compress the suspension?

I was talking to the gentleman with the M5 that I mentioned earlier and he said that the dyno place he went to strapped his down by the spots on the frame that are used when it was being transported (i.e. by truck, etc.). Any idea where those spots may be on the MINI, if at all?

Thanks!!

Something just occured to me. Some dynos, the ones that are portable, simply attache to the left and right front hubs. The wheels are removed first. I'd be surprised if a dealer had an actual dyno, so they may be renting one or using the services of some other outfit that has one. For instance, the dyno used at Mini Mania was a portable unit. Before you spend too much time checking on what you want to know, I'd call the dealer and find out what kind of dyno will be used.

Please remember...DYNO readings are only really usable in comparing to themselves...so same dyno, same day since they are adjustable...a good tuner can make one ready ANYTHING), before and after #'s...they are more of a tool in modding than an actual hp#.....
Some give higher HP's #'s, some give lower hp#'s...same car..heck it gives you an idea if it is running right before you mod, than a % gain when done....or comparing cars tested on the same day....

Here's an OEM Works drive train on a Dynojet.

Cheers,

You might get close to 210hp with a custom tune, but with the JCW 210 ECU flash alone you will not. Make sure you get at least 2 or 3 pulls on the dyno for somewhat accurate idea of where your HP is.
