2006 MCS JCW 1600 Mile Test Drive
2006 MCS JCW 1600 Mile Test Drive
Earlier in the summer I sold my 2002 Pure Silver MCS with 78K on it as well as the 2003 Electric Blue MCS (28300 miles) that my Uncle left me when he passed away. I had the rare opportunity to pursue the car that I really wanted. This is what I came up with:

The only catch was that I reside in Maine and the car was in Miami. No problem, a one way ticket later and I was up for a 1600 mile test drive bringing the car home. Picked up the car and completed the paperwork yesterday at 1:15 pm, filled up with gas and headed north.
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and then finally Maine. Made it home this evening at about 6:45pm. A little over 1600 miles and 29.5 hours later and 1/3 of the worlds bugs are now dead, including a dragonfly that I thought for sure had cracked the windshield it was so big and hit so hard. The car performed flawlessly with not a hiccup. I would have made better time if not for traffic around DC and on 495 in Mass.
I only counted about 15 MINI's along the way, one Countryman amongst the bunch. Only three were traveling the same direction as me and evidently I do not look too friendly as I could not coax a wave from any of them. I must say while most of I95 is not exactly a twisty road I do not believe there was one curve in the entire I95 corridor of Florida.
With rain in a few places along the way and with the bug population of North America weighing down the front of the car it needs a bath desperately. I will post more pictures after I clean the beast up.

Thanks! I can take no credit. All were done by the previous owner. Having said that, one of the reasons I bought the car was that it was completed very close to the way that I would have completed it.
LOL...I assume you mean the one at Atlantic Motorcar? I didn't even know that it was for sale there. Thankfully, looking on the web site I can see there are a few things that would make it a no sale for me. I was looking for pure silver or dark silver, and I was looking for less miles. And I looked for many months and this the best condition car that I could find.

Thanks! You must have found some more interesting roads than I did, at least heading into upstate NY. Beautiful country up there. Maybe it is time to start a new thread asking for the long distance award to pick up your MINI?

Thanks! Yes, the calipers are painted red. My understanding is they came from the factory that way. Mileage now is a little over 24,600.
Nice choice for color on your MINI also.

Thanks! I just came out of a Pure Silver 2002 MCS and was actually looking for a car that was the same color. Dark Silver was my second choice. This car was too nice to pass up and the color is growing on me. I might just get to like the DS better than the PS.
wow, my car looks exactly like your minus the red brakes and the stripes. look for "yyrds" mini post to see. I got mine from pompano beach , fl. nearly in maimi. mine was a discounted 2002 mini for $7995. will require lot of money to bring up to spec. but i will enjoy every dollar doing this.
ironic we nearly past each other buying nearly the same mini! as mine was bought Saturday. then i drove 2 hours north home.

No mods i can tell. its really clean. Only issues is Low brake pads. and the clutch is very hard to press to disengage. also the transmission is very hard to shift, seems to requires double clutching to have any effective shifts.
I think my first mod will be a stronger clutch, lighter flywheel, and maybe look for a transmission rebuilding kit of sorts.
but hey this is your thread, lets hear your story.

Here is the way it is equipped. I will be adding a few other items to the list, like light in sight and the pulsating third brake light. Considering the driving lights also but I am undecided right now.

You may want to check to see if the NM shifter cover will fit with the Helix short shift kit and the JCW exhaust. The JCW exhaust has a resonator right below the shifter cover and I do not think the NM cover will have enough clearance. The short shifter will work but the clearance is very close to the top of the resonator. A little messaging of the heat sheild is necessary to make it all work.

Sorry I read this quickly and thought this was a list of mods that you would be doing in the future. I would be really curious if the JCW resonator is still there and their was enough room to install the NM cover under the heat shield. In order for you to see if the NM cover is there you would have to remove the heat sheild. When I installed the Helix S.S. the clearance was really close to the resonator.

I have to assume that they either fit or they have been massaged into place. The list above is the way the car was equipped when I purchased it. I have a friend who has a lift and as soon as I can get the car registered so I can drive it legally I will be heading over to his house to check it over underneath and look at what you have mentioned. Thanks.

If you are interested I can give you the original owners name here on NAM in a private message and maybe he can answer your question for you. Everything else about the car that was either described verbally, in a picture or written about was EXACTLY as described. I could not have been more pleased with how the overall transaction went so I have no reason to doubt the veracity of what is listed. That information is taken directly from the original ad that he placed here on NAM. When I have the car up on the lift I will also take pictures but from your description I will not be able to see much.
The only bummer throughout this whole process is that now that I have the car here I cannot drive it until the financial institution in Florida produces and sends the title to the car to my bank. Then I can register the car and legally drive it. The transit plate I used to move the car from Florida to Maine stopped being valid once I pulled into my driveway. My DMV does not issue temporary plates, only dealers do.
Maybe its a GP thing?

Worked at Maine Yankee presently in exile in New York but we still own a house in Wiscasset and get there every now and then. Will be moving back in about a year.
I agree it is MUCH nicer than the car at Atlantic.
