2011 Tuning Kit - Anyone Have?

Just talked to my MA and they seem to have the ability to order now for 2011. I have no desire to do an aftermarket tune on my car after some less than great experiences in my past with Greddy eManage.

Worth it? Seems to be about $2200 installed. Pricing seems comparable to a full exhaust, DoS intake, and Accessport (which I can't use anyways).

I guess I'll be a first. Placed the order with my MA about 30 min ago.

Is this tune now available for automatics? If so what dealership is your MA at? I've asked my MA and he is still trying to find out. Thanks

Does the AP not work for 2011? I hear you on the aftermarket. When I took my car to the dealer after I uninstalled the AP, it had thrown 27 codes because it did not set the car correctly back to stock. That being said, what a BA piece of machinery. It made the car SOOOOO fast. I am actually going to buy another one soon (had to sell the other one to pay for some post graduate school!) It will by far give you a better performance upgrade for less $ then the JCW package. BUT, the JCW package will keep you in warranty, not overwork the turbo, and will allow you to be a JCW owner which is always cool. Good luck, let us know what you think.

I'm keen to know if the JCW tuning kit is available for the 2011 LCI automatic as well.

I've checked with my local MINI dealer and he insists that the tune isn't available.. which makes me kind of puzzled as I've been reading here on the forums that its already readily available.

Is he just clueless or is the tuning kit for an automatic MCS a recently launched thing?

My MA is pretty well tapped into the goings on with MINI and he's saying the Kit for MCSa will probably be available around mid-summer; mostly because of the N18 engine. If people are ordering then it's either for the JCW (engine not upgraded in '11), or for the MCS with manual gearbox.

I'd be careful and make sure you can get a refund if the tune is faulty. Later versions of the MCSa tune were found to be rather problematic for several owners. To the point that I believe MINI pulled the plug on it. Long thread here ... https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-at-start.html

Seems that's old news and really pertains to pre-'11 my's. See link:
http://www.motoringfile.com/index.php?s=jcw+tuning+kit

But finding out anything is very very difficult. MINI corporate just refers everything to the dealers who get info from the net and bulletins. Who knows????

Nope, AP does not work for 2011. I agree that tuning really opens it up, but my warranty is valuable to me right now . My Mazdaspeed Miata goes like stink with it's tune though

It's probably fine, just pointing out previous problems at the tail end of the 2010 cycle. Being that the 2011 is new, I'd ask for some assurances and even a refund if problems arrise. If I was spending close to $2000 on a OEM tune that had problems prevviously I'd be more careful. BTW, I had the JCW tune on my 2008 MCS and had no problems.

Looks like the kit bump the power to 195 HP @ 5700 RPM, and 184 LB-FT from 1700-5500 RPM and to 200 LB-FT with overboost from 1800-5000 RPM. Installed list price is $2419.00

Dorykiki,

To confirm which kit was installed on your 2011, can you get us the part number off the shop invoice?

My MA also says the kit is not offered for my 2011 MCS... If you have the part#, maybe that wil help the case for those of use that are looking for the same kit/tune upgrade you got.

Thanks ahead of time...

Thanks for the P/Ns. I've passed this to the Service Manager @ MINI of Pensacola and to a couple of the MA's. Hope to hear something this afternoon. One of the MA's said not many folks get the JCW or the tuning kit as the MCS is already fast enough....

I've always liked a bit more power in all my vehicles as long as the reliability and warranty stay intact!

Have great day and thanks again for the good info

Samer at Baron MINI in K.C. said he had 3 kits for 2011 in stock. Did not specify if any were for automatic.

Once again the the jcw tuning kit for the N18 engine 2011 is available for manual AND automatic Cooper s
I've been driving my car for almost a week and I love it, Its a shame if you guys can afford the kit and don't install it
Really much more power ! Better sound ! And smoother auto trans.
I really feel now that I'm driving a jcw with an auto trans...

My MINI dealer has just installed one on a 2011 MCCSa. The owner is currently having JCW brake kit put on. I'm going there tomorrow to hear the JCW exhaust and order the kit. Was told that it was a 3-4hr install. Total cost of kit and install was quoted as $2,600.....trying to see if they will give any type of discount. Now to justify this expense

Perhaps this thread could serve as a place where mini owners could post how much they pay for the kit. We've seen thus far a list price $2419 and the MCSa kit for $2600?

Is anyone getting the kit installed at the dealer any cheaper? If yes, please also include your dealer, so it can be validated by my dealer (if they needed to).

I am trying to decide if I should go with this factory kit keeping the warrantee intact, or pay less than half the price and get an Alta AccessPort which voids the warrantee, but provides more horsepower, etc...

Good ! Hope you wont regret it
We are talking now 200 hp ( UK version )or 197 bhp
There is one difference between the uk version tuning kit and the US one :
The UK kit comes with an new exhaust manifold compared to the US that does not come with one
Anyone knows why ?

Greetings Nammers! Looking to see if anyone can verify any info about the 2012 automatic/stage1 kit. My current vehicle situation ('97 Eclipse) has forced my hand into taking the Mini plunge a bit sooner than expected... (aw shucks, right?!)

The only configuration I am interested in is a 2012 Automatic S with Stage 1. I've read all the rumours here about availability of the Auto and/or the Stage 1 kit. I called the brand new Mini Of Plano who said automatic is no problem, but the guy didn't have any idea what a Stage 1 kit was. Says he will look into it and call back. Second call was to Mini Of Dallas, who also said automatic is no problem. When I inquired about Stage 1, he put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back and said there is no difference between Stage 1 from 2011 to 2012 and that the current 2011 kit is what I need.

Can any of you much more knowledgeable and helpful folks either confirm or deny any of this information? Something about the 2011 kit for the 2012 car just didn't seem right, but maybe that's just me.

Thanks!!
Jon in Little Elm (Dallas)

Since it's going to be the same engine ( N 18 ) for 2012 Cooper s than yes you can order the jcw tuning kit for your Cooper s auto
Good luck
