P2096.....What should I look for??? UPDATE

Last week I got a P2096 code and P2096 pending code while cruising on the interstate. I cleared it and it went away for about a week until I got back on the interstate at cruise, then came back. Both times were steady at 70 MPH.

I googled and found this:

http://www.myrotarycar.com/portal/fo...202000W03.html

This is generic code found on all cars (part of the emission standards so even though they are not specifically talking about a MINI the trouble shooting principles will be the same)

Leakage exhaust gas
• Rear HO2S malfunction
• IAT sensor malfunction
• ECT sensor malfunction
• AIR system malfunction
• Leakage intake-air
• Front HO2S malfunction
• MAF sensor malfunction
• Fuel line pressure malfunction
• Fuel pump unit malfunction
• Leakage fuel
• Ignition system malfunction
– High-tension lead malfunction
– Incorrect power supply to ignition coil
– Ignition coil malfunction
• Insufficient compression
Metering oil pump malfunction
– Engine oil condition malfunction
– Rised oil pressure
– Oil passage malfunction
– Engine malfunction

• Fuel injector malfunction

• PCM malfunction

How long do they usually last on these cars? Is it a DIY item, or take it to a shop kinda thing?

How did they determine it was the bpv? I was on my way back from a trip to Ohio and on the last fuel stop the ses came on. When I got home I checked and found the P2096. I replaced exhuast gasket as it had a slight leak, cleared codes and refueled all ok. The next day ses came on again.

2006 S just turned 40,000 miles
