I am currently getting my tuning kit installed and the dealer said that disks are no longer supplied with the kit. Can anyone verify if this is true or are they just BSSing me. Thanks

 

Since the car has to be connected to the BMW servers for the tune verification anyway it's possible BMW has done away with the DVD and just downloads the tune directly to the car. However considering you can still purchase the kit from outside sources(like here) with the DVD your dealer is probably FOS. They won't give you the DVD regardless so it's hard to really know.

 

Mine did not come with the CD either...

 

Neither did mine. I think they stopped with the CD about 6 months ago. Even if sites like Morristown and Genuine UK mention a disk its probably just an old web page

 

Thanks. I feel a little better now. I was starting to wonder if they even did the ecu update since everyone else says they received a cd. Is there anyway to check if the tuning software has been loaded? Also what happens if the program somehow needs to be reloaded. The service advisor mentioned that they had to call bmw to get an authorization code to install the software.

 

I had my kit installed about 10 days ago, they said there is no more disk, uploaded directly from the dealers computer. So, your dealer is not FOS.

 

When I got mine in August they were still handing out CDs.

 

I got mine with my tune in summer of 2008, I would think it's still VIN specific and they must give you an authorization number, IMHO

Any tune for the R56 is VIN specific, whether JCW or not. It is part of BMW's effort to lock down the ECU.

 

I picked up my car today after having the tuning kit installed, and no CD. They gave me a printout of the instructions and there's no mention of a CD anywhere in there. I feel better hearing from others that they did away w/ the CD. I was ready to go back in and raise a ruckus that I paid my money, and I want to see all the movie! Or something.

 

I got my kit from Morristown Mini as well about a month ago. There was no CD in the package. I spoke to someone at Morristown about the actual items included and he said that they did away with the CD a few months back. There is a red envelope that has some codes the tech is supposed to verify before he can tune the ECU.
