JCW JCW Engine Tuning Kit - Unique?
Just got mine installed!!
KIT JDW001063 - installed in my 2012 R58 coupe S - 10/16/12
All I can say is WOW! This car even MORE fun than when I got it one year ago! I decided to sell a few shares of my apple stock (bought in 1988 at 12 bucks each) and had the tuning kit, alcantara/leather wheel, alcantara **** and boot installed. So I guess you could say I paid a little over 48 bucks for it.
I've just walked in the door from driving home, and once I have a bite will be heading back out the door, to go for what might be a very long drive this evening!
Coming home I got stuck in rush hour traffic on 93 in Boston. I had more fun goosing the gas in SPORT mode for the 3 or 4 miles it was bumper to bumper.
HUGE grins from this thing. Well worth it in my opinion.
And if you don't have the JCW wheel - just get it. Seriously.

The next item on the list, a larger intercooler.

I've got a 2010 R56 MCS, which I plan to have the JCW kit installed, hopefully w/in the next couple of weeks.
What makes the kits so distinct to the Vin #?
Is there any difference between a kit installed on say an R56 MCS back in 2008 vs. one installed here in 2012? In other works, have there been any software revisions or tweaks?
What kind of HP increase can I expect from the kit, 189 or 192 HP?
Is the software occasionally updated?
Thx

Power difference between the MCS 175hp to whatever the JCW kit puts out is night and day. You'll love it.
Well I got my JCW Engine Tuning Kit installed yesterday.
I got the kit on sale for $1520, plus $300 install.
I like to talk to the Technician who works on my vehicles, preferably before, to go over what they did, or will do. In this case, he not only installed the needed JCW Code, but in addition, went through and did a clean, up to date, install of everything, in order to prevent any issues. I guess there is more than just one set of code in the R56.
Driving it home yesterday afternoon, I immediately noticed a difference, but I need to drive it at least 50 miles for the system to set itself up. It also sounds great.
Now what's next? Again talking to the Technician, he suggested the Intercooler Hoses and the Noise Maker Delete, then to go after the suspension.
I've read that the stock MCS R56 suspension is more than adequate for most driving conditions, and that the only change suggested, going w/heavier sway bars. The Sport and JCW Suspensions are just too stiff for other than the track.
Also, as some of you may know, the JCW Exhaust from the kit is not a complete Cat Back Exhaust. They cut the exhuast at the Second Resonator and install it from that point aft. I'd like to replace that forward stock section w/a straight one, w/o the Resonator. Anyone know if anyone sells one, or would I have to have one made?

Glad to hear you like the tuning kit.
Your next steps are a lot bigger than what I am going to suggest, but definitely get the JCW steering wheel. Completely worth and is a great addition to the car's interior.

you can install it with multi-function!
I had mine installed with the original black multi function button panels from the original wheel, and the JCW carbon fiber lower center piece. It looks great. The wheel and the JCW shift **** have the matching logo artwork, and give the interior a nice look.
Same here. I just took the multi function steering wheel buttons from my original wheel and transferred them to my JCW wheel.
I am really new to the forums. Can anyone tell me if this kit would work with my 2010 R57 Laurel Sports Edition? If so where do I start and who do I need to talk to? Is this something the dealer can install?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Yes, it would be the same kit available for any R57 Chassis in that year. You would just call the local dealer's parts department and they can get you the price on the kit (usually between $1500~2300). Install is a few hundred bucks too. Typically, most will have the dealer do the install since it requires a VIN-specific programming update to change the ECU Mapping. You could potentially save a few bucks by having someone else put in the exhaust/intake and then just have the dealer do the ECU tune.

Check out Sewell MINI's website. You can find them in the vendor section here and their webiste will list the part numbers for the kit for the R57.
