Did anyone have their JCW Tuning kit installed at the VDC/Port when ordering their Mini? I nearly ordered an 08/09 MCS with the JCW kit installed at the VDC and was wondering if anyone else had this done.

Just got mine installed! <3

US, 2009 Clubman S, auto.
Tuning Kit # R56S 04718 , as shown on the certificate and on the engine badge.

for those wanting to know more re: s/w versions, etc. I got the "ISTA/P" report that reads...

New integration level: R056-11-03-511 , upgrade from R056-10-11-512.
I see how the two first blocks of numbers are the date ("2011-March, 2010-November") but why the last number went FROM 512 TO 511 (and at the plan it was 510)... no idea

Then I have done of other "Part number prog. ECU old/new" but those seem a bit detailed...

Workshop certificate (not the pretty sheet) says:
Rear silencer
Air filter housing w/ filter element
Exhaust manifold

Just those three things get shown on that sheet.

So, we can start drawing some conclusions I take it?

Less than 6000 JCW Tuned Cooper S's out there in the 2nd gen, prior to 2011 model change.

2007 R56S 01280 but no date on my certificate =[ perhaps it got spec'd out like that. I got the car used in 2010 with 10,900 miles.. Still brand newish =]

I'd like to see what kind of hp mine has I think i read somewhere that the kit sets it to like 189hp but i dunno. feels like more =]

I managed to get a replacement plate after 3 months and showing a lot of evidence that I actually had the JCW tune on my MINI

My Works kit went on in February of 2005, when the car had 666 miles.

The gent that did the installation worked at Mini of Peabody at the time, but subsequently started wrenching for an Indy Light team. I watched him work for the first hour, and it was a pleasure to behold...

Damned if I have the number though. I just went looking through the archives and nowhere do I have the original certificate. The second motor (which was the only Works crate motor in the country in February of 2010) went in at 130k, and that one doesn't have the plate on the valve cover so no joy there either.

I was hoping to put a nice low number into this list - oh well.

Cheers,

Charlie

Really reviving an old thread here but does anyone know if the tuning kit for the 2007-10 R57 will fit a 2010 r56s? Thanks in advance for your help.

The parts would more than likely, but the tune won't work. Each tune is generated by vin. At least what I was told about my 2012. I'm sure it hasn't changed though.

Thanks for the feedback. Local dealer had a sale on a jcw kit they had leftover but I wasn't sure how this worked since they told me it was for a vert and not a hardtop.

I have a 2013 MCCS currently in production and am interested in having the dealer add the JCW tuning kit. I have a few questions for which I would greatly appreciate your opinions:

Is everyone happy with their performance results? Is there enough bang for the buck?
Have there been any reliability issues?
Is there any benefit to waiting and doing this after break-in, or would it be better to break in everything together? If so I would have it done before I take mine home.

This is my third 2nd gen MINI and I have spent at least the cost of this kit on aftermarket mods for the first two to get similar results. This might be less fun than DIY but at least these performance mods should carry some legitimacy with MINI for warranty or trade-in.

What does everybody think?

When I got my mini I test drove a standard s and the JCW tuning kit. I've also legally and safely on a track raced a mcs and smoked it. The JCW was definitely more powerful, sounds awesome, comes with one of the best air intake systems available and you get the warranty. Plus I love the JCW badges and rims and stuff. I was glad I got the JCW kit.

Sorry accidentally posted and wast ready. But reliability wise I'm all good no problems. My car had the kit put on as soon as it was built so break in wasn't really documented. My exhaust got louder after break in and the car seems to know how I drive but my car is now a real head turner.

Do you hear any pop / burble on your O7 with JCW Kit?

There was some with the JCW exhaust but I spent $30 and got the resonator cut out and now it sounds amazing! I cant explain the difference in sound but worth it. Best money ever spent on the car yet.

The JCW exhaust has a good growl it's just not very loud it's really held back but in cabin it sounds good and out cabin sounds good. Cut the resonator and you step into a meaner sounding JCW

Thanks, Conrad, for your advice. Sounds like the JCW kit may be the way for me to go!

Still waiting to hear Winston's born on date. Once I have my MINI and a JCW kit installed I'll provide details to zanary, if he is still collecting them! be a while.

Yeah no problem. The Tuning kit compared to the S is night and day. Also on a more philosophical level, just having the JCW badges all over the car not only increases resale value and collectibility but it gives you the full feeling of owning a JCW. You get the kit for the performance but the badges are, in my opinion, what makes it a full transformation. Besides. The JCW kit was quoted by John Cooper himself to be one of the most powerful minis ever made something about the torque output and I also read it does well against the GP. SO that being said. Enjoy the rebirth of your car

I have the Tuning Kit on my 2012 MCSa and totally love it. It was installed at the dealer upon arrival. I've compared it to 2 loaners that I've driven and it is honestly a very huge improvement.

Some will say you can do better aftermarket, but that's not for me. Between the warranty, the parts engineered specifically for the car, and the cache of the JCW family, it was a no-brainer for me. I have the JCW suspension, aero/wheels, and strut brace and love them all.

I've got a 2010 R56 MCS, which I plan to have the JCW kit installed, hopefully w/in the next couple of weeks.

What makes the kits so distinct to the Vin #?

Is there any difference between a kit installed on say an R56 MCS back in 2008 vs. one installed here in 2012? In other works, have there been any software revisions or tweaks?

What kind of HP increase can I expect from the kit, 189 or 192 HP?

Is the software occasionally updated?

Thx

.
