Factory aero kit to JCW aero kit?

My JCW came with the factory aero kit with painted arches. And I have grown to dislike it. I also think that a JCW needs to have the JCW aero kit to well... look like a JCW. I am thinking about swapping it out for the JCW aero kit. Has anyone done this? Do you guys think I am nuts?

Does the new JCW aero kit with the brake ducts and new splitter come pre painted in Laser Blue or will I need to have that done by a body shop? I took a look at Morristown MINI's parts site and its hard to tell if the new JCW aero kit comes pre painted. There are 2 different versions with 2 different prices but the pics that they show do not match he descriptions.

I am also going to post this in 2nd Gen Coupe talk section as the JCW aero body is is not necessarily specific to a JCW.

I think it would be the same as changing from a normal MCS to JCW or factory aero kit. Remove old equipment, install new.

Morristown MINI requires you to e-mail them on their website about the part in question and they will reply back usually within a few days saying if the pre-painted kit is available, and in stock. The new JCW kit should come with the new updated splitter and brake ducting...I know mine did.

Hope this helps...

A quick email to Morristown will get your answer. Every time I have inquired there, I've gotten a reply within an hour.

Kinda weird that they're not replying quickly. I ordered the on sale brake duct kit for my existing JCW body kit last Monday and it was shipped an hour later. Would have made it to my house Christmas Eve but FedEx in Memphis had weather delays so I got in this Tuesday. Hope to put it on this weekend.

Just wondering, any updates on your progress? Were you able to get a good price for the kit? Painted?

Still looking into this. Since I have the factory aero kit on my car now, I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to get the JCW aero kit fully painted and keep my painted wheel arches or get the JCW aero kit not fully painted and get new matte black wheel arches.

I did get in touch with Morristown about this and also Prestige.

I will kep the thread posted on my journey with this.

Well, I did it. Went from the factory aero kit to the JCW aero kit. I like this much better. This is how a JCW should look.

Onefish2...I am interested in a few details:
  • Did you install it yourself?
  • Why didn't you keep the painted wheel arches? and
  • How much did all of that cost?
It looks good.

thanks

I purchased it from Prestige MINi in Mahwah, NJ. They did the install as well. I prefer the look of the matte black wheel arches. To me that is how a MINI should look.

They have a car on the showroom floor that they added all the JCW bits to. They painted the entire thing in Chili Red. Its just too much paint in my option. Check it out http://www.prestigemini.com/MiscPage_21.

Total cost with paint and labor was a bit over $3500. I got a great deal.

very cool. i would someday like to get just the front bumper to go with my aero kit. I believe that JCW Aero Kit II is all body color, so it should work out

Did you guys see what they want for that car? $47K and it looks like it has every potential JCW option installed along with the $3,500 aero kit...

That car has every JCW option except for the rear CF bumper insert. I have seen the car many times. I think its hideous. I have many of the JCW CF pieces myself but they went a bit overboard with putting all of them in.

Prestige MINI is located in a very wealthy area in Northern, NJ. Comparable to Beverly Hills, Grosse Point, MI, Scarsdale, NY etc. Some kid will drag their dad in there one day and demand that they buy it for them.

Just an update... When I went to pick up the car I asked them to put the car up on a lift so I can inspect it. Everything came out GREAT!!! Nice paint job, nice work, nice price. I am very happy .

I take the car home and take a good look at the car one more time and its got the original splitters . I looked at the bill more carefully and notice that the aero kit is the old part number for the original JCW aero kit. I call up to ask how this happened and they tell me that the JCW aero kit II is on national back order. Even though I asked for the JCW aero kit II (with the updated splitter and new brake ducts) and even worked with the parts dept to make sure they ordered the right parts.

Now this is one of these situations where they could have called me up to tell me this. And I would have said fine, just make sure you get me the updated splitters and new brake duct kit. But they did not.

So now I have to go back to the dealership to have them put the updated splitters on. Lucky for me its 15 minutes away.

Sometimes just sometimes we know more than the guys at the dealership in service and the parts dept. Make sure that you get what you ordered. You can always double check the part numbers on www.realoem.com.

$47K for a MINI! Yikes, I hope you get a bag of the crack that they're smoking along with that.

I agree that the JCW body kit belongs on a JCW car My wife also has a Laser Blue Mini. It's a 2009 S, not a JCW, and she has the factory aero kit. IMO the factory kit looks good on "her" car, but we have a member in our club with a 2007 S with the JCW kit on it and looks much more masculine, works perfect for him Good choice for you to change, to bad it costs $3500.

Its only money. If i didn't spend it on the JCW aero kit I would have spent on some other crap. Besides, the car brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. People constantly ask me questions about it and comment on it.

Yesterday after getting a car wash, this guy in a Hummer H3 comes over to me and asks me if I want to trade. I was like no way dude. My car gets way better gas mileage than your over sized POS.

Hey onefish2: so, new jcw aero kit... was your old one in blue?

If it wasn't blue... and it was red or black.... whatd'ya do with it? I could use buying a used aero kit for my CR MINI

Sometimes I think about swapping out my factory aero kit for the JCW kit, especially since I have a factory JCW... but I went out and washed all of the winter crud off of it yeaterday and she sure looks purdy. ! like the factory aero... not many of them around. This is not an update picture but I figure this thread should have at least one picture of the aero.

The factory aero kit that was on my car is in my attic and yes, its laser blue just like the car. I wanted the JCW aero kit not to change the color of my car . Any one want to buy it? Its in very good condition. No bumps, bruises or nicks.

Don't get me wrong I like the factory aero kit very much. I am still getiing used to seeing my car with "new clothes." I just like the JCW kit much better.
