The OBX will add some power to the car, particularly at the higher rpms. Yes, your exhaust will sound louder with the header. Since the JCW exhaust is quieter than most aftermarket exhausts, it won't be super loud. It may sound really loud in the beginning, but after a couple months, you'll be used to it and it won't be so loud anymore

Here's a video I found on youtube

nope you'll have to cut out the stock cat from the stock header and weld it onto the obx

From what I've heard, the OBX headers will make a tiny bit more power than a stock JCW, but that tiny bit is not worth the money and effort. Your money is better spent elsewhere. A local racing shop that specilizes in Minis and BMW's and Porsche's says they don't bother with the OBX on their racing Minis. They just use the factory headers.

I would guestimate no more than 5 or 6hp, if that.

Probably right on a stock MCS or JCW, but if you mod it with cams, pulley and head, then the headers will allow more HP. If you do not have a 15 or 17% reduction pulley start there, that would be ,more in the 15 to 20hp range gains. Wow Indonesia!

Hello.

I had a quick question about the gains of a header and its value as a stand alone mod.
I am considering a Supersprint header (similar to the OBX) for my 06 JCW.

I really do not want any of the additional engine mods due to long term wear issues. Maybe a tune in the near future.

It seems that while minimal in gain this mod does allow more to be extracted from the car in a "as close to stock" themed car and would agree with the doing this mod under that intent.

Well, the local race specialist in my area who I tend to trust has tested just about every header out there and has concluded, after dyno runs, that most headers don't do anything for the Mini on it's own and even with other mods, they really aren't worth the trouble. If the motor was highly modified in other ways, then I'd say, yea, get an OBX. But without those other mods, you're wasting your time and money. I'd put the money and time into something else like suspension improvements and the like.

Once upon a time, back in the good old days when everyone was driving bit American V8's, headers and such could make a noticeable improvement. Generally speaking, that's no longer true. Car manufacturers (like motorcycle manufacturers) are designing their engines much, much better nowadays and they do so with an eye towards making the entire engine system work together. When you start mucking with things, you often end up with marginal gains in one area, like at high RPM, but you also end up with compromises elsewhere, like losses in the midrange, for example. The days of making simple changes are more or less behind us, with some small exceptions. Like changing the pulley on your supercharger.

martinb.

That was by far the best answer on this topic so far.
I was debating the suspension issue as well but that is another topic all together.

Thanks.

I can't comment of the Supersprint. I don't know anyone that has one and wouldn't feel right saying anything about that header. Try contacting one of the tuners, as they see cars with all sorts of combinations and may be able to shed more insight.

The OBX is a carbon copy of the Supersprint at a fraction of the cost.

I have a SuperSprint and it is a nice part. But RMW would walk all over it if I had the money.
