JCW Stage 1 and suspension; what to do about insurance?
So after I got enough of replyes to my "To Stage 1 or not to Stage 1" thread
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...stage-1-a.html
I decided to go ahead and get it done along with the JCW sport suspension so I have some questions about insurance.
I would especially appreciate feedback from any one who has stage 1 installed.
1. How do I explain to the insurance company what is that I did to the car?
2. Does my insurance go up in price? When I first purchased the car they asked if there are any modifications or after market things installed. JCW is factory but its not standard so where does it fall in. Can I tell them that its sort of an options just like heated seats or a navigation?
(this sort of covers it but not really https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...insurance.html
3. MOST IMPORTANT How do I make sure that my policy covers my JCW upgrades? I want to make sure that is G-d forbid something happens, I get reimbursed for the JCW stuff if the car is totaled, or get the JCW parts reinstalled if it's repairable.
Thanks all

If you want it covered, you'll need to declare it as a dealer installed option. Your insurance will go up to cover the additional cost of the add-ons. They probably don't have enough data to tack on additional risk insurance cost to account for the increased power and the associated driver behaviour.
My guess is that your mods would not be covered in the case of a total because even though they are "factory" they were added after the fact. In the case of a wreck that damaged suspension parts, they "might" agree to fix it with like parts, i.e. JCW. I wouldn't even bother to tell your insurance company anything UNLESS you are prepared to pay more for a "rider" that will include you modified parts.
My insurnace company (State Farm) was great about replacing things that were dealer-installed (graphics) at delivery when I had a comp. claim. I wouldn't expect them to do the same with my Stage I kit and everything else I've added since then - which is why I have all my receipts and keep meaning to call my agent. Then I went to do it yesterday and someonehow lost the receipt for my JCW kit.
Generally riders aren't that expensive and will cover the parts you've added in the event of "the worst" happening to your car. Or, you'll have a cool agent and as long as they know about the stuff beforehand and it's not tens of thousands of dollars of stuff they'll pay for it later. Still best to call and let them know.

Have you tried calling your insurance company yet? They would actually be the best place to start.
I have a cert that proves my JCW, so if there was ever an issue, i would have that to ensure it got included in the repair.

my SF agent told me all they care about is whether the car is MCS or factory JCW (differing premiums.) When I asked about my tune kit and other JCW stuff she asked me if these mods were 1) OEM (yes) and 2) dealer-installed and under the car's warranty (yes), and said "no worries, y're fully covered."

I figured not every one goes into JCW garage thread, and more people check out general talk, but on another hand those who do go to JCW thread have more experience with the issue.
