How much for JCW Stage 1 install - $4200?

I went to my dealer in Houston, TX for a price for the JCW Stage 1 upgrade kit: $2100 for the parts and 14 hours labor - over $2000!

I know from searching various posts in this forum the typical charge is around 2 hours labor - approx $200. How long can it possibly take to swap out the air box: 5 min?, swap out the exhaust: one hour?, flash the ECU: 1 hour?

I called Morristown MINI as suggested in another thread and can order the kit for $1680 plus $85 for shipping. I need your help in determining what is a fair rate for installation based on what others have paid for the exact same kit.

Please tell me where you had the kit installed and how much you paid for labor so I can go back to my dealer and find out what they've been smoking. Many thanks!

They are out of their minds. I paid a little over $2000.00 for the kit and the download. 2 hours should cover it unless there are other updates that need to be downloaded. Even then I wouldn't think it would be more that 4-5 hours at worst. The air box takes about 10-15 minutes to change and the exhaust about an hour. I know because I did these at home myself. Where is the next closest dealer to you, in Dallas-Ft. Worth? Ask the dealership to price match the kit and let them know that the documentation from Mini states 2 hour install on average. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

It took 2-2 1/2 hours and I had several updates. As already mentioned some dealerships will match the price at Morristown. I cant imagine where they are getting 14 hours from.

Surprisingly, the local Mini Dealership here in WA State MATCHED Morristown Minis price of $1680.00 plus $84 shipping and with taxes and install, they quoted me 2158.00 total. This seems like a reasonable price Im thinking...

chickenplucker, looks like they are looking for a sucker. Dont take the bait!

I did the install myself, took 1 hour ! Took the mini to my favorite dealer, they looked over everything and did the upload for free .....

2 grand for an install, total BS !! Even the JCW worksheets from the manufacturer states 2.5 hours installation time.

Who's your dealer?

Thanks for the replies. Could you please provide the name of your dealership(s). If I provide specific documentation of other dealers pricing, I'm more likely to have this issue resolved favorably. Thanks again!

Hahaha... let me guess. Momentum Mini? They quoted me the same price. I told them no thanks, bought the Stage 1 Kit from Morristown Mini and got it installed with Mini in the Woodlands - they just charged me 3 hours for installation.

Figure anywhere between 2-3 hours max for labor installation at the dealership anything over that is they either have no idea how to read instructions or are just a very shady dealership to begin with.

Definitely seek a different Mini dealership!!

I called Woodlands MINI and they quoted me 5 hrs/$498. If I order the parts from Morristown MINI I'll pay $2200 total parts and labor - I can live with that I guess. My only other option is to drive to San Antonio or Dallas to save $200. Not worth it for me.

When I went to my dealer I inquired about trading in my 07 MCS on an 09 JCW, but they offered an insultingly low trade-in, so I declined. I'm done with Momentum MINI, and I recommend anyone who deals with them to walk in with eyes wide open, get everything in writing, and don't expect anything beyond the minimum. Better yet, find a different dealer. When I do purchase a JCW, I guarantee it will not be from Momentum. This little stunt was the last straw.

I believe $2,200 installed is a reasonable price for this. Anything else is gravy for the dealer.

www.miniofgrandrapids.com lists installation at $200 and that's what I paid.

Your car needs to have all the updates for a normal MINI S befor they start the JCW software load. IE, The dealer should update your mini to the current load for free anytime under warrenty if it's out of current spec. This applies fixes that BMW thinks are needed for your car. Lets not debate if that is a good idea or not here (r53 owners). Therefore, the actual time to program a currently up to date car shouldn't change much. If they are having trouble with your computer it should be covered under warrenty. If it's their's "oh well". Of course this is in a perfect world!

Morristown Mini is charging $115.00 an hour for labor because I believe that is the standard Mini rate now.

According to Morristown Mini...you can take any factory made Mini part to any other dealership and they are required to install it...but you are at the mercy of their labor charges.
