Exhaust note change after one month on Stage 1?

I've had my Stage 1 installed for a month or so... The exhaust note was perfect.

I've noticed in the last couple of days, I'm getting a droning sound at highway speeds and an overall change in sound elsewhere.

I haven't heard it from the outside but from the inside, I'm not happy.

Is the inside of the JCW muffler consist of any amount of fiberglass or any material that would "break-in" or wear-out after some time?

I'm going to put the car on the lift tomorrow and physically check out the exhaust to make sure a connection didn't come loose.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed a change in sound?

Mark

Almost Every Exhaust Gets Louder in the first month

My R56Auto JCW has 2500 miles on it because I took a long trip. It did get louder and does have a mild drone. Nothing that bothers me in the least but it is there

I wouldn't classify the sound as a drone. It's just louder. I personally have started driving around with the rear seats folded at all times so that I can hear that sound more.

my exhaust note got much louder recently to the point i pulled off the muffler assembly and looked in with a light. i did not see any fiberglass matting, and no noise at all with shaking. it must have rolled packing like a glass pack muffler.

Just an update, the exhaust did get louder but either I've gotten more use to the sound or it got better.

In either case, I REALLY love the way it sounds now.

Orangecrush, I think you're right about the louder exhaust! I just started to notice it too. I thought it was my imagination!

The drone drove me nuts on the way to the Deragon with a fully loaded boot, seats down and extra booty in my passenger seat. i am planing on adding Dynamat to the boot and under the passenger seat to cut the sound down some. These old, middle-aged ears no likey the drone.

....and the exhaust drone is why I waffle back and forth about the stage 1 kit.

Some people say it drones, some don't. It looks like if you put on the longer JCW resonator "front" it reduces the drone. Alas...

I have no drone but I have a catless downpipe installed with the factory JCW resonator and rear section. Flows great, sounds amazing and is LOUDDD wide open, but cruising around town just has a nice growl to it with no drone at all.

My setup is similiar to Gilboyto's setup. (except my cat is not gutted.. ED) and I'm using an Acura resonator.

Callahan said something that is so true....

Driving with the back seats down make a HUGE difference. With seats down or package shelf removed, you can tell a difference in sound.

Yes, it does make a HUGE difference. mine when I had the ALTA exhaust rattled like crazy if the seats were done and droned a lot more than when they are up

When I drove home from the dealership I had the seats down (owing to the fact that I had the old MCS exhaust in the back that I'm hoping to sell). It was loud, so much so that I thot I might not like it. A few days later I had the seats up and the rear boot cover on, BIG difference. The other day I was unloading my SUV when my wife pulled up in the MINI. That was one of the rare times I get to hear the car from the outside. It sounded great
