adding JCW intake...

Does the ECU need to be re-flashed? What if I added the JCW injectors also?

Intake: no

Injectors: yes, or a custom or canned tune (to really get any benefit from them)

Thanks..that's kinda what I thought. Is the JCW intake plug and play then?

Kinda sorta. You have to splice into the ECU harness - tells how in the installation instructions. Everything else is plug & play.

Many of us with the JCW intake (myself included) remove the flap and, therefore, the need for any wiring. Install is very straight forward this way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Blimey chose to keep the flap operational because he has/had a very pronounced and annoying whistle from his throttle body or bypass valve at low rpms.

Yep - throttle whistle. Reason I bought the JCW intake - it's designed to reduce "undesirable" low RPM sounds while opening up at high RPMs to let the supercharger sing (and breathe).

While some do choose to go flap-less... the "standard" install really isn't that big a deal - took me 60-90 minutes, I'd guess.

That said, if you're gonna go flapless, I think you'd be better off with the Dinan intake... because that's basically what it is... a JCW intake with no mechanism. And cheaper.

I just bought the car and it was advertised as a JCW equipped car. Being a Mini newbie, I did not realize the injectors and intake were an upgrade to the kit - so I purchased a new JCW air filter from a forum member here...I wanted to start with everything new - plugs, oil, filter, etc. I went to replace the air filter with the new one and realized I did not have that option...that's why I'm checking on this. If I find one, I'll probably install it as it was intended. Thanks for all of the info guys.

A word of advice, don't buy plugs from the dealership. Some charge as much as $35 per plug. You can find them on-line for $8 each.
