JCW Horsepower Discrepancy

Please forgive my ignorance.

Can someone explain why some sites show the R56 JCW tuning kit as boosting the horsepower to 189 while others show 192?

Specifically, MotoringFile says 192 and the dealer accessory site shows 189.

The same reason some sites quote 175hp for the stock R56 MCS and the factory quotes 172. It may come from a published hp increase from the JCW kit (???) as the difference on both is 3 hp.

The higher figures stated are "metric" horsepower:

1 "metric" horsepower = 0.986320073 US pony

Doesn't really matter since the actual figure is higher than that.

Wait, forgive my ignorance, why is the actual figure much higher? Is it the over-boost?

Underrated from the factory. JCW Stage I has about 206-208 HP in real life.

It's about as fast as the R53 GP, dixit Mark Cooper.

Dyno runs are showing stock R56 with 170 at the wheels which is close to 190hp. For some reason Mini has unrated the power of the R56, maybe for auto insurance limits in Europe.

Exactly. By the way do you have more photos of that Cooper S in your signature? It looks just right.

No that's at the flywheel.

Most dynoruns indicate around 185 to 188 hp at the wheels.

But then again, the real fireworks is yet to come... (Stage II)
