JCW gas mileage

Just purchased a 2006 MCS cabrio with JCW tuning kit (manual trans). Do I need to be in fear and trembling about the gas mileage? Please inform me, but be gentle.

It really comes down to how you drive it. If you drive it relatively normal, there won't be that much difference between what you're driving now (Some even claim the JCW does slightly better with gas mileage with normal driving, but that hasn't been my experience). However, spirited driving + JCW = poor gas mileage. Its more how you drive than wether you've got the JCW thrown on there.

My OBC says 25.8

I am getting 25.8 miles to the gallon according to my OCB. I drive fairly spirited most of the time. I could probably do better. My driving consists of 70% suburban driving, 25% highway and 5% city.

I am happy with my mileage figures.

You may see an increase as you surpass 10K miles, I did.

I've got an '03 JCW, and I'm getting 23-25 mpg overall on a tank of gas. I drive fairly aggresively, I guess (not like an ***, I hope , but pretty quickly). I'de guess my driving is about 60-70% urban/suburban and 30-40% freeway. I could probably pick up a couple mpg by backing off 5-10mph on the freeway and putting my foot in it less around town.

The OBC can be misleading so I measure my mileage by calculating it after filling up the car. I've been doing that since December of 2004 and have averaged 25.8 mpg on winter fuel and 27.5 on summer fuel. I am a spirited driver but not an agressive one.

I drive about 60% city miles and 40% highway miles. I have noticed that the highway mileage at 60-70 mph () is way better than if I travel 75-80 mph. Also, short-shifting does wonders for around town mileage, and with the torque increase of the JCW, the car can handle it.

On the other hand, one could ask why you went with a JCW if you are focused on fuel economy!

Thanks folks. I knew I was taking a hit...I just didn't know how much.

Those figures are reasonable. I just forgot to ask what to expect. steve

Buying a JCW means never having to say you're sorry. If you're worried about mileage, don't get one. My computer registers between 21 and 22 mpg most of the time. Want to see something scary? Wind it up to red line and watch the conservation numbers drop down to single digits.

When I drive aggressivly, I average about 25 MPG with a 50/50 mix of driving. If I drive with the goal of max MPG, I can average 28. Strictly highway at 70 mph w/cruise on, I can get 32 all day

These numbers are all pretty much in line with what I've seen with mine. When I first got it, even taking it easy, I barely cracked twenty mpg on the highway, but it was tight and it was winter, oxygenated gas and all. Now I could crack 30 on the highway, and have been averaging around 24 with mostly in-town. and mostly spirited driving....

We're just over 3000 miles and the OBC is at 24.5. We tend to be on the mild side around our town, (small town) and much more spirited on week end trips.

Well. I bought JCW cabrio and my mileage avg. is 19.7

Should I be worried? Still under 1000K and mostly city driving. Should I be worried? I'm getting 19.7 mpg.

I would not worry. Be faithful to the break in period and the motor will continue to increase the gas mileage as it goes.

1000K? Boy once you hit a million miles you should donate the car back to MINI for their museum!

20mpg sounds like you're having fun. (running premium?) try taking it easy for a tank-not grandma like, just easier-and see what it does.

During the break-in I was avg 26 mpg. After break-in like 27 mpg and now after 10,000 miles service (at 11,800) getting 30 mpg. Basically all highway at 75 mph no cruise cause I take it up into the 100's every once in awhile. I can see the gauge move then, but the highway driving still gives me very good milage. I am pleased with the high mpg, but you know if it got 10 mpg I'd still be pleased (see huge smile from driving jcw fast)

Around town to the train station and back with spirited driving I normally get around 22-24 mpg. When I feel the need for speed (and I find myself missing the whine of the supercharger at 4500 rpm plus), my mileage drops to 18/19 on the OBC (like this week). That is as bad as it gets. All Sonoco top premium gas to be clear.

A couple of times I have done done interstate drives where I have really nursed mileage and have seen a peak of 33 mpg. I believe I can reliably get over 30 mpg on pure highway with my speed under control.

However, I will NEVER regret ordering the JCW and applaud my decision every time I ignite those afterburners....

Afterburners are good !

Still worried. 1500 miles and only getting 19.9 all city driving.

Current situation is almost all city driving and I am getting 19.9 mpg. Have about 1500 miles on car. Tend to wind it up to 4500 a bit.

My 06 JCW gets roughly 1 mpg less than my previous MCS on the same route to work everyday. But I do find myself shifting about 1k higher in the rpm range on the JCW. That may be where that 1 mpg is lost.

I just purchased an '06 MCS Cabrio and I'm averaging about 25 MPG. Of course my right foot has mostly been in "sport mode". My wife has an '06 Cooper and she averages around 34 MPG, which is about the same as what I was getting in the '06 Honda Civic I used as trade in for my Mini. Do I miss the gas mileage? A little, yes. But that's the trade off I'm willing to take for a daily commute that is much more fun to drive in the MCS.

Rycase, what mpg do you get with the S4?

I'm going from an 05 wagon to a MINI, so knowing what you're averaging in the Audi will help me tremendously.

FWIW, I average about 11.5 mpg in the S4 50/50 city and fwy but the fwy isn't always free.

I watch my mileage pretty closely and was averaging a pretty consistant 29 mpg. The computer says 31 or some such but it lies. I was surprised that using 91 octane didn't make any difference in the mpg. I went back to using 89 with a plan to throw in a tank 0f 91/93 every 3 or 4 tankfuls. I seldom shift over 4000 rpm and usually a little under 3000.

However, I just installed a JCW sound kit and in the first full tank since installation I recorded 30.5 mpg. Lets see... can I live long enough to recoup the cost of the kit?
