I installed black surrounds on mine yesterday as part of an ongoing blackout process... but I really love the M7 Ultimate mesh grilles for the R53. Is there anything like that available for the R56???

I decided to gie this a try myself, i did want to purchase the separate pieces so I painted the OEM chrome parts.

They turned out really good, i really like the look of the black out grill..... I still a little bling bling (chrome) around the car but the front grill looks great.
the next thing is to figure out how to paint black the hood scoop...

i think it would be great if you do this:

remove the scoop via the screws that you can easily unscrew
get the scoop out
paint yourself if you are capable, or have a paint shop do that for you (it wouldn't cost much)

Certainly not $299 to paint the scoop. It will blend well with the black fender arches.

LOL

if U (i presume that you have some skills) did that, i will probably paint it orange-blueish with my gloss black spray paint as i'm a ******* in painting issues. So i think i'm gonna take it to a painter and make him paint my stuff.
I will have my upper and lower grilles painted to gloss black and the chrome surround to gloss black. one of my friends have done that and it looks PERFECT on R56!

On a slightly different track. Does anyone know if you can buy the lower chrome strips like the ones that come with the chrome line exterior package.

Hi,
I read the whole post about the black grill trim.
All I want to know is or the JCW (black)trim will fit on the original grill and bumper. Or do I need to use a dremel tool? (Maybee anyone can post a picture with the differences, or tell the exact differences)
I can buy the Outmotoring parts too, but it's a bit expensive to ship them to Holland. (in Holland the original JCW trim costs $50,-)

Thanks a lot!!
Pimmy

I opted not to get the chrome line exterior in hopes of a black grill and grille surround. Is this not the case? My car should be here soon. I absolutely do not want any chrome in the front of my car....or anywhere else for that matter.

Pimmy,

According to this thread, the lower piece of the JCW grill surround and the stock version are different.

Your grille and surround will look like r56mini's or my MINI in our sigs-there is a chrome surround on the grille. Lyle at Vinyl Styles can take care of that for you or you can get the bits from outmotoring.com, among other vendors.

I just got these black grill surrounds. When I install them, do I need to remove the upper grill? The lower tabs look like they are difficult to get to.

Any help is appreciated!

black and dark silver are like bread and butter. The car's gonna have that mean look when you're done.

Yes. You have a Cooper S, right?

Or do I need to use a dremel tool?

That thread is talking about the LOWER grille, not the trim around the UPPER grille.
