Interior/Exterior Super quick IPF yellow fog light question
Super quick IPF yellow fog light question
I'm looking at picking up the Alta light bar with the yellow fogs. I would like to know what color lense I should expect them to be. On the site, they are very yellow, however I read somewhere that the lense was clear and that it was just the bulb. Which is it?
And simply out of curiousity, does anyone have some shots of the yellow fogs on a DS/B S?

One thing that I have never seen is an actual diagram of the light pattern of the IPF lights. They say that they are a combination of fog lights and driving lights.
Everything that I have ever read about driving lights and fog lights indicates that the desired light patterns are entirely different. The fogs want a low light pattern, usually no more than the height of the fog light itself above the road surface, with a very wide, almost 170 - 180 degrees of spread, and a very flat top. This is to reduce the amount of reflected light that comes back to the driver. Just as the fog lights want to be placed as low as possible on the car.
The driving lights on the other hand want a beam pattern that throw light as far down the road as possible. The pattern will generally be as wide as 2 - 4 lanes of traffic and project 300' - 400' in front of the car and up to 30' high. The lights want to be mounted at the height of the main beam headlights to gain as much distance as possible. Something not possible when mounted below the bumper in the lower grill.
Just some food for thought.

Interesting, because I initially going to just get the bar and lights seperate. And what I wanted to do was put fogs in the center and driving lights on the outside. I nixed that idea because I didn't want to run around and research a bunch of other lights when I know these will fit and I have the harness for them already.
When it comes to mounting locations I do not like the look of the lights when mounted in the upper grille so that setup is out of the question for me.
If and when I do get a light bar, it won't be just because I need the additional light output either. This is going to be more cosmetic than anything else, so if I don't get the optimum output from the lights due to location it's no big deal.

I have the Palo Uber bar and did exactly what your thoughts were. I got four Hella 500 lights. 2 are fog and shine directly, in front of the car. (I added yellow bulbs be you can not tell unless the are on) The other 2 are driving beams that are set up for long range and high beam use.
You are correct, it is very hard for one light to do two things well at the same time..
And cost is the same as the Alta with out the hassle of running two wire harnesses.

I was under the impression that the palo uber bar cost more than the alta and didnt include any lights.
On their site, I don't recall any mention of the lights they use. If that's the case, then I may go with palo uber.

The Palo Uber is $300 bucks for the bar and the wire harness along with the inside switch panel. The Hella's can be had on ebay for $60 per pair.. So, for around $420 you get the bar the better (single) wire harness the inside switch panel and lights that really work better..
BTW, see my thread about my install:
