Peeling Steering Wheel.... grrrr

Ok,
I guess it is a good sign of allot of turns but my 2004 steering wheel
has been peeling and it's starting to really bug me. Fighting geting a cover but wanted to know will MINI cover that under Warantee? If not any good fixes out there?

Thanks
Ross

Yes, they will....mine is a 2002 and has not peeled at all. Really makes me wonder if lotions and such really do have an effect on the wheels.

If you have the patience and time, myminiparts.com has a steering wheel glove. It is good quality steering wheel cover that covers the entire steering wheel, even the spokes. It is a pain to lace up, but not difficult...just time consuming. It is like $35 and looks completely professional! It looks better than the stock wheel did before the peeling and feels better. It has better grip to. I think they can do custom colors and things to.

I have the same problem. I think our minis are trying to tell us we need a JCW steering wheel.

I had this problem on my '03. MINI dealer took care of it no problem.

Do the dealers replace the wheel? Are there ample stock piles of '02 wheels around? My wheel isn't peeling but if it did I would settle for no less than an '02 wheel. After all, the human interface devices are such an important part of any MINI. I am quite attached to my wheel and shifter.

went yesterday to a Mini dealer who had lying on the floor a JCW 3 spoke wheel with Alcantara on top and bottom. All worned out.

This material (Alcantara) whatever you read about it is fragile.

they have replaced mine twice and they told me that the newest one was a better material...BS! It is doing it again! I think i'm gonna take it off myself replace it with a sparco and go smack the service guy with the old steering wheel.

Replace it with real leather! If you don't have a warranty, it's gonna cost you an insane amount for a new wheel. Might as well go with an aftermarket rewrapped one, or wrap one yourself. Still cheaper than getting a new wheel from the dealership. I couldn't be happier with the one from Mymini. I've also seen the pre-wrapped ones they have first hand and the quality is amazing! For $35, I practically got a new wheel...and still my wonderful 2 spoke.

I'm glad to know I am not the only one thaty has had this happen. I think I am going to do the "glove " suggestion. Don't mind the time if its worth it.

Well, my 2004 has suffered the same 180 degree peeling steering wheel fate as described above. After a trip to the dealer today asking for a replacement under warranty, the dealer here in SoCal, along with BMW/Mini, has said this is normal wear and tear and declined to replace it under warranty. I stated that I know this seems to be an ongoing issue with certain cars asked for reconsideration. Is there another approach I should take to get it replaced under warranty? After all attempts have been exhausted, I'll go the steering wheel glove described above.
