Has anyone added the black grills to the bonnet and top bumper without getting the entire Aero Package? This is something I would really like to do as I think the Aero Package is out of my price range right now. Just want to add the grilles and rally lights... I think it would look really sharp.

Storer,
This topic has come up a couple of times now.
If you do a search in the forums area you should find a good bit of info on it.
Also... In the Member MINIs gallery you can see a few examples of what you want to do.
Hope this helps.

As per Sfiveten, who graciously posted my pics, please go into gallery, and on about page 30 or so, you can see the pics of my DS MCS that has the black mesh grille pkg.

Majormini,
Just checked out your pics, as expected, that looks really cool, for some reason the black grilles just do something for the car. Thanks for the input. Did you install the grilles yourself or did MINI insist?

Myself and a friend installed the grilles and rogue stripes this past Saturday. The top, hood grille, is a piece of cake, however, the bottom, bumper grille, required some basic "luck"
Would not recommend this installation to the weak of heart!

The full aero kit is $1200 plus prep and paint (you can have the dealer...aka their autobody partner). I've seen dealerships charge anywhere from $2500-$3500 for a fully installed kit. I've also seen mention of members who have bought the kit, had it painted by their favorite auto body shop, and installed it themselves...supposedly MINI dealerships can print out the specific instructions for you to do your own install. I've had the full kit installed on the S I'm picking up this Friday...more info on what I had done and what the result looks like...coming soon

The cheapest way to make my MCS attractive was to fo the following

Just get Flat Balck amd Semi gloss 3M or Avery sticker and heat gun or blow drier. Thats what my friend did with my MCS. Even the hood stripes . All are just cut out stickers and looks Good! In the future if we dont want it anymore we will just remove it .... total spent.. $ 20!

I did it a month ago. The top part takes about 15 minutes, the bottom took me a couple of hours, but I worked slow. I cut the slots in the bumper cover by drilling a hole at either end of where the slot would be and cutting out the rest with a razor knife. I found the hardest part to be getting the old double sided tape off.

If you haven't seen this here are some instructions that are very well done

After Coop was involved in that lovely little accident, I went with the aero bumper, and I am SOOOOO much happier with it than the stock bumper, just looks great.

I'm going to giving the top bumper grill a go this weekend too! The idea of drilling the two ends of the slots and then cutting across sounds like a good one. I'm going to use this technique combined with the info from r53w11.

I'll post some pics when done.

The instructions and pics in the mentioned posts worked great for me this past weekend. It took less than 3 hours. Perfect excuse to go out and buy a new cordless Dremel Tool.
Bought the grills from Classic Auto Campus (at least a 20% discount). I was surprised at how difficult it was to remove the adhesive - at least 30 minutes and lots of Goof-Off. A made up some time by taping over the exposed bumper cover with electrical tape instead of masking and painting. Since I carefully cut slots in the bumper cover for the tabs on the new lower grill (and didn't use glue), I can pretty easily remove it an replace the tape if necessary.
I've got to post a pic soon.....DS/DS, Rota Circuit 8's, silver CooperFlags racing stripe, black aero grills - awesome!!!!!!!!!

OK, I did it! It came out well! I also moved the stock license plate mount down so that it doesn't block to lower grill.

I did the grills yestreday. Looks sooo much better, although all the left over water in the new "honeycomb" is a pain to get rid of after a wash.

New grills:

I bought the 3 black grill pieces when I picked up my MC at Rasumssen MINI. This week I'm taking it in to a body shop they recommended, as I'm too faint of heart to do dental work on my new ride's smile! They said it will take about an hour of shop time to fit them. I want interchangeable grills, so that I can change my smile w/ my mood  I'm going to have them do just the top and bottom grill first, and see if I want the bottom radiator cover black or not. Since my MC is PS/B w/ chrome bumper inserts, leaving the bottom radiator cover silver could look cool. I'll see what I think, and may post pics later, if I can figure out how w/out a scanner.

foldinghalo,

Your car really disturbed me - I could not figure what was wrong to start with (missing chrome).
I am sorry to say your car looks almost evil to me! But if you love it, thats great.

Personally I am putting MORE chrome on my Indi Blue MCS.
