OK,

I've looked all through the owners manual and at all the pics I can find. What is that pod on the ceiling just behind the interior lights. It has some vents in it and it's very mysterious. Am I being watched? Can they hear me talk? Are they looking for stolen Mp3's????? I'm thinking of covering it with a sock or maybe duct tape until I find out if aliens put it there or not.

Please tell me what it is.

Please be kind. Remember, even paranoids have real ememies.

I KNEW IT! It's that gas thingy isn't it. And when you do the pulley mod the gas seeps out and makes you drive to a BMW dealership and tell them the whole truth. Then they pat you on the back, say its alright and make you buy the JCW upgrade package...........

Be vewy, vewy careful

if you have the sunroof, and the mysterious pos above the rear seats, the pod contains the motor for the sunroof. took me a bit to figure that one out

You mean that square bulge centered above the rear seats right?

That is one of the sensor locations for the OEM alarm system. I can't remember if it is for microwave or ultrasound....but it's something like that. If you're curious you can, pop the cover off without any tools and have a look. Mine actually has the sensor in it, eventhough I don't have the OEM alarm system.

I would NEVER even think of looking inside that thing. It's probably full of marking ink or it brands a red letter on your forehead or something. You have all been very kind, but I am going to be very careful from now on. I can just FEEL them watching from behind me through the vents.

I used to hear voices in my head, but my friends said that's silly, there's no such thing, so now I just ignore them...........

Thanks for the help all!

David

Hey David one final warning: be careful, if you don't have the alarm, those tiny vents are just large enough for the tiny poisonous ants to crawl through! Be thankful they aren't large enough for killer bees.

Maybe a MINI isn't such a good idea after all.... I'm going to get a nice American car so the German government can't spy on me. Or maybe it's the British? Why would the British want to spy on America, they're our allies! Aren't they? Oh no! They're going to stab us in the back and invade! The British are coming! The British are coming!

I always wondered about the creepy pod. I can't tell you how many people have asked about it also. I even started wishing I had a sunroof, as the sunroof model appears to have no pod, or at least it's less conspicuous.

Seems like a lot of trouble for a motion detector. Why wouldn't they just put the motion detector in the front pod?

DavidR, all your fears concerning the "Pod" is correct! I knew a person that merely tried to look through the little louvers....and he was drugged and whisked away to an island , was given a number for a name, forced to drive Austin Mokes and when he gets out of line some guy named number "1" sicks a "rover"(large beach ball thingy) on him!
Its not so bad..he has a friend named number 6 that looks just like Patrick McGoohan. After a while he hardly felt like a "Prisoner" at all.

How did I never notice this before? Went out and looked in my car, and sure enough, there it is, looking every bit as sinister as you guys have described. (shudder)

I certainly hope that its "capabilities" are not enabled in my car. How much does it know already???

Not having the sunroof, I only have a vulgar small bulge in my rear area.
And I’m still wondering what this guy was doing looking through my windows.

I ckecked with the goverment Office of Interior Roof Bulges, and they said that they have never heard of such a thing and that they could neither confirm nor deny that I had a bulge in my Mini. I was then connected to the Air Force Office of Unexplained Objects Flying Near the Ground, and was told conclusively that the

"Bulge in the roof of your vehicle is being cause by reflected heat from natural sources or swamp gas"

I feel so much better. I am now keeping my eye on Randy however...........

Does anyone know how to clear swamp gas from the inside of a Mini, rolling down the windows doesn't seem to be helping very much.

Thank you

From the Air Force Office of Unexplained Objects Flying near the Ground; MINI’s are not alone with this problem. Here is positive evidence of a swamp gas sighting around another car.
