Interior/Exterior The Union Jack-ification Thread
I just put these on the car yesterday - they're the vinyl "mirror skins" available from bimmian.com. I ordered two sets, one in orange/blue that I installed on a set of white caps (shown below) and a second set in metallic black and dark silver, which I'm planning on installing on my OEM chrome caps. Sorry for the indoor pics - it was nasty outside yesterday...

Very nice Matt, must have been a bear to get the vinyl wrinkle free on a curved surface - more skill than I would have.
Do those covers just snap on and snap off or are they more involved then that. I have the chrome covers but though about changing them as my mood changes (like my badges), but only if they were easy.

Getting the vinyl on smoothly is pretty easy actually - just use a "wet" application technique (2-3 drops of dish soap in a spritzer bottle of water and mist that on to help the vinyl slide). When the vinyl is in place, hit it with a hair dryer for about 5-10 seconds and it shrinks right down onto the cover. Doing it this way will minimize bubbles - I didn't even have to pop a single one with a pin.
Getting the mirror covers off is actually very simple. I read several threads that showed how to use a metal pick or a small screwdriver slid behind the mirror to get them off, but doing it this way is a HUGE PITA and ends up breaking some/all of the tabs.
HOWEVER, after futzing with the mirror for about 25 minutes and breaking one tab with my screwdriver, I pulled gently UP and OUT on the bottom edge of the mirror "glass" (it's actually mirrored plastic) and found that it's held on with a ring of flexible (read as: "not easily broken") plastic clips. It popped right off, and with the glass not in the way, I could use my fingertips to pull the clips up and off - literally took 45 seconds per clip once I got the glass out of the way. The clips are obviously designed for you to use two fingertips to push them out of the way - they won't easily break if you use your fingers (as opposed to using a secrewdiver, which can easily snap the brittle platic).
To replace the glass after you're done, simply center the pivoting peice that moves the mirror and push the glass straight in - it snaps right back into place.
If anyone needs photos of this process let me know, but removing the mirror glass is really dead-simple and removing the cover clips is totally intuitive once you get the glass out of the way. There are 5 clips - 3 on the top and 2 on the bottom. I freed the 2 bottom ones first and the whole cover just popped off (I'd put a towel on the garage floor if they fall). Just be sure to pull gently upwards from the center of the bottom edge of the glass and you should be fine.

Here's my dismal conribution of 4 total:

My wife only conceeded to the rear view cover as it's not so noticable, "no way" on the side mirrors or roof graphic, I just stuck the UJ and checkered flags emblems under the side "S" markers and on the boot. She sees it as because I'm British I'm making it mine not ours, but I try to explain it's about the Mini being British, but technically shouldn't we be putting on the St George's cross (see sig) as that is the flag of England??? After all it's not assembled in Ireland, Scotland or Wales

WOW is that cool! My wife would FLIP over that Stones tongue. What a great idea.
agree.
Here is my favorite Union Jack! I recently started dating this wonderful woman and thought a MINI run would be a great date. She agreed and bought a Union Jack T-Shirt for the occasion!

PS: She LOVED the run and can't wait for the next one. Needless to say, I'm smitten

Well, if you really want to split hairs, it should probably have a EU symbol, since many parts come from BMW... But wait, isn't the engine manufactured in Brazil or something? And I'm quite sure that many of the electronics come from China.
I'm being a pill, of course, but I think the point is that to most "normal people" the Union Jack is an "English Flag". Plus, I've always liked the design.
Congrats! That's a VERY good sign! Hope it works out for the best!

As I recall, my old Triumph wasn't made by "English Leyland" nor were classic Minis made by "English Motor Corporation"...

And that, as Sybil Fawlty said, you can put "right in your bottom".

That is awesome! And your right, the St. George's Cross isn't very exciting to look at. Plus if we all drove around with one of those on our roofs it would look like the red cross had a MINI division.

You see, that's all part of my ruse. Unsuspecting honda drivers look at Blimey and assume he's a piece o' crap, because, after all, aren't all British cars? Little do they know he's a rabid, wurst-eating killer Dachshund underneath...
Now, git outta here and stop messing with my British fetish.
DESIGNED BY A BRIT
Great German technology, granted... but designed by a Brit...
The best thing about it, is that Ed from Cooperflags did the tongue and UJ in metallics... when the sun's out it sparkles like the rest of the paintwork!

)... I get lots of interest in this from mini and non-mini owners.
