Chrome Boot Hinge Covers

I picked up a set from Mini Mania. These are not the kind that uses double sided tape. They did not come with any install instructions. Anyone have an idea how I install these.

Good question... Mine came pre-installed from the dealer.

I'd check with your dealership's service department on how to install them - if they're MINI OEM parts then a dealership will have an installation document. If they're aftermarket then Mini Mania should have access to the manufacturer and THEY should have instructions. Either way there should be SOMETHING, it just depends on who made the part in question.

Jody, to help you, I think we need to know if these are OEM, MINI-brand covers or if they are after market. Not to be rude, but if they're OEM then a quick call to the dealer should land you some advice - all MINI-brand accessories have official installation sheets available. It's frustrating, I know, when a vendor won't replty to mails - have you tried calling them? Since they're a NAM sponsor, I assume they have full contact info.

Knowing who made them would be the next logical step in researching this, if simply looking at the units doesn't give you clues. Look for clips or other fasteners on the back of the chrome covers and whatecer you have on the car now should have the same configuration - that should give you clues as to how to remove what you have on there now.

Jody, Sorry I've just been jammed... If they are OEM and you are installing on a Cabrio.
1. Drop the boot down.
2. Pry the 2 plastic flaps out of the full plastic covering on the interior of the boot door
3. You will find 4 torx bolts 2 inside each of the flaps. Loosen these. You may need to use a rachet and a cheater bar on them, they were tough on my car to get loose. Just do one side at a time!
4. Before you completely remove secure the boot by having a helper hold it or use milk crate or something.
5. Remove the old exterior hinge cover. I used a plastic scraper to get underneath of it to pry it up.
6. lift the boot upright but don't close. Insert the new cover into the hinge and it should snap in place, you may have to do this once or twice.
7. Drop the boot horizontal and reinsert the bolts and tighten
8. Do the other side.

If it is oem, this is no big deal... Finding the cheater bar, plastic scraper and milk crates took longer that doing the swap...

I'll try and post a pix later. Michael
