Check out my new Sharan Short Antenna

I recently changed my antenna again. This time is even shorter.
Check it out, this is the one I got. Finally no more radio control car look.

I like it! Maybe a tad too small for my tastes, but I like it!

I like the look but they website says "with built-in amplification".

How can that be with no power?

It looks great. I'm still trying to find the "right" shorty antenna for my GP. How is the AM and FM reception with this antenna compared to stock? Is the construction quality top-notch in all regards?

FWIW, I just got the 4" Stubby from Alta. Looks pretty much like the one in the pic posted above. I can't notice ANY change in reception on either AM or FM from the OEM antenna.

The only thing I don't like about the Alta antenna is this: I'm so **** that the two small "Alta" logos on the bottom of the stalk do not line up perfectly in a straight line facing front and back... they're off by about 10 degrees. The only way to get them lined up perfectly is to unscrew the antenna a little bit and then it's not tight. Drives me slightly mad.

Sadly, I can see why this might cause some consternation.

Yeah, I had to double up on my blood pressure medication the day I got it.

Thats a very nice antenna...looks pretty sturdy and well done. I had one in a similar shape, but the paint continued to flake off , that one appears to have a pretty good cover on it.

Good thinking... I'm sure a little rubbing alcohol will do the trick. Then I won't get palpitations every time I look at it.

Wrap a little bit of plumber's tape around the threads and screw it back on. You should be able to get it to line up depending on how much tape you use.

Now THAT would fit my checkered theme I've got going on !

I have some nice checkered tape from RaceChex, but the squares are too large for the antenna. What did you use for that job, PD ?

CR&PW, I cut small sqaures of stick-on vinyl out of a lettering kit (you know, the sleeve of letters and numbers you get at Staples?). They have held up well for about 6 months now.

I can't claim credit for the idea...a fellow NAMer posted this idea over the summer. But it is an eye catching, easy mod!

Well, you did a nice job with that, PD ! Sound like a very tedious job but you made it look like the antenna came that way. Well done !

Thanks for the info.

Thanks CR&PW. It wasn't that tedious...I think I did the whole thing while watching a movie at home.

I noticed on my Alta that i could change the length of the screw part of the antenna, as in make the threads longer or shorter, and when i made it longer i was able to turn it more to line it up better.
