Thoughts on Rear Seat Delete.

I was looking at the rear seat deletes' I have seen here on NAM. I think that it could be a good idea. I just dont know if its right for me. I never use the rear seat. Im just wondering if it will look alright. Maybe I could put some sub boxes in the back so it doesnt look so empty. Any ideas or thoughts on the seat delete idea?

TY,
John

I used to wonder the same thing before i decided to get it. I never have anyone in the back seat. That was my deciding factor. It looks great i love the look. Its made very well and fits pefect. Helix sells a rear seat delete kit now . The same one i purchased from www.yellowmustang.com.

do it

I've gone back and forth about the rear seat delete kit. I'll never have anyone sitting in the back seat (except for the miniature daschund) but the increased road noise bothers me. I notice more road noise when the back seats are down. If you get the rear seat delete, let us know how you like it.

Dynamat it if its too lound. I love the more useable space and hidden storage I have. I know a few have put amps and sub boxes back there that isn't my thing, I'm seeking balance between feather weight preformance and everyday use.

I did my own custom rear system so its basically one level, with doal storage underneath. look great and after a little titn on the rear widows it'll be near impossible to se in the back.

I have been thinking about it too. I never use the rear seat, but I do like to keep some stuff in the back, mostly cleaning supplies. With the rear seat delete there is no where to keep anything out of sight.

I think im going to do it. /I have a MagnaFlow Exhaust. Its loud with the seats up. I love the exhaust note though. I never motor long distances. I always play my Stereo full blast. So the noise wont bug me.

I have a rear seat delete kit that I made , 3/4 plywood with dynomatt on bottom of the plywood , next 1/2 inch 9 pound carpet padding top and bottom , Then I wrapped the whole thing in Black automotive carpet. I also dynomatted the sheetmetal under the seat with 2 layers . No road noise at all . Of course I also have a 15" sub with 1200 watts going to it , so I dont hear anything but tunes.

That's another thing that dark tinting is for!

I did my own. The back cover over the boot area can be lifted to storage underneath. The color difference isn't as bad as it seems.

I'm 6'5" tall, so I don't have any use for the back seats. I really like my rear seat delete, especially since it's made out of plastic. I'm military plus have a new baby, so trying to find the time to actually build one was impossible.

As far as whether anyone should do this mod. It's entirely up to you. If you keep your rear seats, it doesn't take that much time to switch back and forth. If you feel that once a month you autoX and want to shed some weight, then you can always remove the seats, then put them back in.

I do have a question for those who have the ABS plastic delete kit from www.rearseatdelete.com Can any of you raise the front part up a little? The back screws down of course, but I figure the front would have been secured down some how with clips. I guess this is to allow you to get to the manual boot release.

I have the ABS Rear Seat Delete kit as well and installed it for two reasons:
1. Weight savings by removing rear seats and seat belt mechanisms.
2. It's only my wife and I and we have no need for rear seats.
2.5 Man the storage ability really more than doubles with the seat deleted.

Do it!

All good reasons.

the kit isn't that expensive, it's a quality piece, and steve is a great guy. buy one! i absolutely love mine. yes you can lift the front some to store things, with a little sound deadening it's quieter than just running with the rear seats down, and my dog is very happy back there now.

I like your solution with the raised rear section for storage. Has anyone removed the rear seatbelts as well? If I do it I want a clean look, so no rear seat, no rear seat belts. Two seaters are sexier anyway, right?

^^ wow that does look nice.

i kept my rear seat for acoustic reasons. my sub works better with
the seat up making a closed chamber back there.

i got an "ultimat" universal trunk mat from wallmart and cut it to fit the entire back of the mini in one piece. it looks good and helps cut down roadnoise too. i use rubber mats in the front, so it all matches.

What I did was remove the seatbelt from the mount under the bottom seat cushion by removing the large torx head screw. Once they were free, I screwed the screw back into the hole. I then pulled on the bottom of the seatbelt until it retracted upwards as far as it would go. Next I shoved the end of the seatbelt down into the "slit". You then proceed to remove the panel cover where you would change your taillight bulbs. If you reach up inside and feel around, you can find the seatbelt and pull downward. Once the seatbelt is pulled down into the chute, you are good to go. Right in the slit, the little rectangular bar sits inside of there. I'll take pictures of what it looks like and post them tomorrow.

The reasoning for this method is because I didn't feel like replacing the C Pillar panel cover at this time. To completely remove the seatbelt, you need to remove the C Pillar panel, which damages it. On my 2003 I had to rig it to fit back on. Maybe later down the road I'll replace it take the belts out completely. Either way it does look clean without the belts hanging down.
