The wing is fully assembled when you get it, so nothing comes apart. Masking that small an area shouldn't be that big of a deal.

 

Hey FTXR, Hobbit here from AtlantaMINIS. I just talked with Magnum today about getting the arches/body flares painted on my car....the price...around 2K. Let me know if you find a better deal someplace else. But keep in mind, like others have said, this is a very labor intensive proposition.

 

For what its worth to make it easier on my wallet im not going to do it all at one time, im buying the pieces and getting them painted over time so its not a one big lump sum all at once. And ill just wait till there all done to install them.

 

Although you can divide the cost of paint and prep labor up a bit, make sure you have the shop PAINT all the pcs at once to ensure a consistent color match. Just a suggestion.

That's an excellent point. It will also be cheaper to paint them all at once (vs. the cumulative sum of several individual paintings) because there is a fair amount of equipment prep and cleanup that they have to do every time they load your color into the sprayer.

I'd bet that you could split up the prep, sanding and maybe the priming (but some primers need to be top coated within a few days, if I remember correctly), so be sure to discuss this approach with your body shop.

It is also possible to negotiate some sort of discount for time flexability. Were I a body shop manager, I wouldn't mind having some work to do that I can put my employees on when they had a spare hour here or there... work that someone wasn't in a big hurry to have done so I could use it to fill in the holes and keep productivity up. Maybe a 10% discount with a set deadline of 2-3 months out. It can't hurt to ask.

any dealer can order you the parts try Classic cause they have a NAM discount. it wasnt that much for the parts but i dont have an accurate # cause my price was discounted plus i got the aero kit side skirts.

 

As I was sitting in my garage today, thinking about this post, I thought about the idea of taking the arches to a sheet metal shop and seeing if they could reproduce them in steel. Make then easy to mount, paint and even french them into the car. Anyone ever go this extreme?

 

I've never seen anyone go that far, but I have wondered what it would look like to have 'em blended into the body work.

 

It wouldn't work with the front arch because its connected to the hood.
