Interior/Exterior Painted mirror caps
Painted mirror caps
I have a set of Black mirror caps that I replaced with chrome and I've been thinking of painting the Black ones. Anyone had experience doing this that can make suggestions on a manufacturer? I'm assuming a light sanding of them would be all that would be needed to help the new paint adhere. Thanks!
That's not a bad price, but not what I want to do. I'm thinking of a Yellow, but a non-MINI/BMW color. I'm thinking that for about $10 plus a bit of my time I can get exactly what I'm thinking of. Since the caps aren't too difficult to change out I thought I might use the colored caps for special rides. Surely someone can suggest a compatible paint that I can pick up at a local cars parts or automotive paint supply house.
Check my posting for example and details https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=77575 . Got school bus yellow rattle can from Kragen auto parts, sand 320 grit, primer (to be sure), sand 320 grit, 3 color coats, 3 clear coat, sand 1000 grit then rubbing compound comes out real nice.
Thanks WLSH BST - I was actually thinking of Yellow, probably a Porsche color if possible. I have an '02 CR/B S myself and enjoyed seeing your mods. Don't know about the skull and crossbones on the grill, but I would like to use the aero front bumper on mine, and black wheels are on my wish list as well.
I posted up in the Checkmate forum, you can also go to a sign shop, get some matching or contrasting vinyl, and put checkered flag graphics on the mirrors for not-a-lot of money and maybe an hour or so of time...
The pictures show my silver mirrors with black vinyl checks applied. With black mirrors, get some silver metallic vinyl... or yellow... or something reflective... it's all prety inexpensive - the world is your oyster!
I've also heard you can stretch the vinyl over convex surfaces by heating, but have never tried it, though I did use a hair dryer on my install just to soften things up a bit. You can probably bring the caps to a sign shop and see what they can do with vinyl.
