Leatherette vs. Leather

Hey I have a 2006 S with all four packages ordered. I have a Dark Grey S with black leatherette coming....Anthracite everything inside...The status is paint shop on Friday I think according to the dealer...I still wonder if I made the right choice as I love the smell of leather....and really wanted it but the leatherette seemed to feel better....someone help me here... too late to change? What are your experiences? I am sure there are many pros and cons...I went leatherette as it felt better to my backside...I really wanted leather though....and the panther thing is really nice....Thanks!

I have a Dark Silver and I am very happy with the leatherette with both look and feel. I KNEW the Leather looked better but I wasn't willing to pay the $1300 or $1700 for it. I have heard many complaints about the quality of the leather being weak and whatnot.

The leatherette is GREAT! Looks perfect with the anthracite interior as well. I think you'd be quite content with leatherette!

I have leather in my past two Mini's and my current one. I love it! I would say its worth the 1300 dollar price tag, but if you have the money then you should go for it. I love the nice soft feel to it. No problems with any tears or rips or marks as of yet. =)

before stepping into your car, put a dab of this under your nose and
enjoy the aroma of expensive smell of leather.

it'll smell like you just stepped into a Coach store.

I too debated whether to go with leather or leatherette as I do love the smell and feel of real leather since I have it in my old 5 series. On the other hand, my 3 series has leatherette and while it may not be quite as supple as the real stuff, it still looks as good as the day it was new (16 years old and 210k miles now). The 5 series on the other hand looks pretty weathered despite good maintenance over the years.

The final clincher for me was how good the MINI leatherette felt. I couldn't tell a hugh difference (at least not a $1300 one) between it and the real leather. Most people that ride in my MINI can't believe it doesn't have real leather. I also know that it will hold up much better and need much less maintenance.

Hope this helps a little!

My #1 factor in choosing the leather - it was the only way to get lumbar adjustment. That ruled out all other options for me - my lower back support is very important to me!

This is really a personal choice about what YOU like - we've had both Leatherette and Leather....like/liked them both. Both of our current MINIs have Leather - no regrets...

I dont know about you guys, but I typically drive with my rear seats folded down.

If I had opted for leather or the insatiable english panther leather, I'd really have just been paying that STUPID amount for the 2 front seats. That just didnt seem like it was worth it to me.

the only seat upgrade i was willing to consider was the english panther seating. The leather and leatherette had a nice concave sag in every used MINI i shopped around for. The 05 mini's i checked out also had the start of the sag problem.

With that said, it made my decision clear to get the space cloth seats. At the very least, you should get the sport seats over the standard ones if you are considering a non-S MINI.

I have an MCS DS/B, I did the leatherette gray with black (looks smashing). In my short time so far, no worries.

I love my setup, I have the leatherette fronts and the lappis blue backs and carpet. The previous owner changed the fronts for some reason. Everyone asks about it when they see my car for the first time.

I have the english panther leather on my 1 weekold 2006 MCSa PM/B. I am very satisfied with it and would not want anything else. I traded in a BMW 740IL (1995) for this and the leather in it is just like the day i brought it home! No complaints ever even in the St. Louis summers.

Just taking a guess but it looks like leatherette. I havent seen leather in that color. Its uncommon. most likely its leathertte. Leather would show more wear by now.
