Swaping Headliner? From regular to anthracite?
Has anyone done the headliner job themselves? I have no idea why I missed the wonderful option of "Anthracite headliner" when I ordered my MINI. Now I am in a very desperate state of switching my regular ones for the anthracite ones.
I've check with my local dealership and find out that the anthracite headliner "package" if purchased seperately from MINI parts will go from a $200 factory option to a $1,000+ dealership parts purchase. This leaves me no choice but try to find a MINI owner who is willing to swap his anthracite headliner for cash.
Next thing I need to know then, is find out how difficult this is. Said if I have a potential generous owner willing to swap his anthracite headliner with me. I still need to make sure I can complete the process.
So... any thoughts? Any comment is welcome, thanks!

I was hoping that the quote included labor but according to MINI of Dallas, $1,000+ is only for the parts.
And yes, its including the A, B, C pillars, visors and the trims around the lights. It's the only reason I haven't bought the anthracite pieces yet. Perhaps I should check out Morris and Classics to see if they offer any dicount on these anthracite items.

Same here, my pillars are permanently dirty. Also, how much did the pillars run you?
EDIT: Found in another post that the pillars run less than $200.

Just for fun I asked my favorite Dealership for a price and the wanted about $1400.00 for installing a new headliner, I removed mine and had it recovered at a local upholster shop for $120.00
I have done mine, and I can tell you it is pretty straight forward ... however it is a task..
Start with removing the rear seat bottom, then seat back...
the rear hatch seal gets pulled off
the hatch threshold cover
the rear seat latch loops
the right and left side panels
move around up front and remove the rear view mirror
the sun visors
the roof light and grab handles
the A, B, and C pillars can be pulled free... just let hang
at this point some like to remove the front seats I leave them in and move them forward and lean the backs down...
the last plastic clips can be pulled and the head liner can be dropped, then rotated and pulled out the back.
Uninstalling takes about 2 hours bagging all the hardware and stacking the parts.
Installing the new headliner just reverse the steps... takes about an hour if you have all the hardware bagged for the part you are installing.
If you want to replace the A, B, and C pillar covers, they are tethered so the stay hardware will have to be removed.
(I bet you could cover them with plastikote to save some money on changing the color of the pillars)
...anyway... best of luck.
Motor on!
