I found a company to make colored gauge faces for your MINI. Initially, they will be DIRECT replacements for the current face.Not an overlay. They will require removing the speedo and tach, clear plastic covers and needles.Time consuming, but not difficult. Lighting should be improved too because of MINI's current layout.
At first we will offer tach and speedo in MPH, Chrono pack to follow soon.
Need feedback on colors. Black w/white, red w/white, royal blue w/white, Union Jack are in the works.Should have prototype photos in @ 2 weeks.
Retail price probably around $200 per set. These will be top quality, with future plans to make any color or image design per order.If you have seen AWD gauges for Miatas on rspeed, this is a similar idea.

Black and White! There is also another company making these (maybe the same?), called Black Cat Custom who have some coming out hopefully very soon. The prices are not known at this time (too my knownledge)...but I'm looking forward to them.

Haha, buying these will cost more than painting the dash/door panels/misc. interior parts altogether, but at least it'll give it that finishing touch!

 

Black Cat Custom sells their overlays for $69-119....and they are soon releasing a kit for the MINI, which I assume will be around that price. $200 is WAY to much for gauge overlays....IMO of course.

I'd use a dark, metallic anthracite w/ stark white numbers, if one were available - I think stark black w/o something for the gauge lighting to reflect off of would be strange looking. A Union Jack would be cool but I worry about seeing the numbers against such a busy background - you really must be able to get all relevant driving data immediately, with only a glance...

 

The prototypes are almost done. The company I am using makes parts for the aerospace industry. These gauges will NOT be any kind of cheesy stick on label.The MINI gauges are pretty intricate with LED back lighting. To peserve this and all the warning info, these will be direct replacement for your current gauge faces. They will be machined to fit perfectly in the original housing. If the digital imaging system works, ANY patternor color combo would work. I'm working on original style black background, white numerals, Smiths font to replicate the Mini Cooper S from the sixties for my MC40.
All the suggestions sound great, I will post photos as soon as possible.
As far as the price, We would like to keep it affordable, less than the $200 figure. Thanks for all your input. These will be worth the wait.

We are considering REAL carbon fiber and aluminum. The machining could be expensive. I also thought something like the current Aston Martin metal faces too.
This company has the capability to do almost any material, your wallet being the limiting factor.

Sure, they look cool....but I'll shim in here and speak for myself, but there's no way in hell I would pay close, if not more than $200 for two gauge overlays. Just my opinon I guess...

Just to clarify what is going on here...this project was supposed to be under the radar until it was officially released to keep control of the 'press'

....I have designed and done the pre production graphics for a set of custom gauge faces for the MINI (only NON-nav are in the works until I can get a set of steering mounted gauages from a Nav car) and am having Black Cat do the production work (contract manufacturer if you will) with our design being exclusive to us. This project was initiated by me and the guages will be considered Out Motoring branded product. Black Cat may do alternate designs but not based on my graphics.....and only if volumes justify.

I am hesitant to post a ship date because it has already been 3x longer than expected to get this ready to ship but hopefully things will come together soon.

As soon as the first batch ships in my favorite color combo I will start with other color combos that have enough volume to justify production.....
