right, so I ordered these door pulls from Moss, but I have NO IDEA how to install them! I feel rather embarrassed to admit this, however, the stock plastic pulls do not screw or pull off, so I'm at a loss how to change them out
Anybody know the trick?

Cheers,
Ryan

I'm not certain but if it won't screw off you're probably going to have to take the door off. Hopefully they come with instructions...

lol i say pull really hard? thats funny.. i was thinking of ordering those but if you cant get them in i wont bother. nah theres gotta be a way to get them out. maybe its like a medicine bottle where you have to push and turn at the same time are there any markings on the moss door pulls? if there isnt they should probably just be able to be pulled out and the new ones placed inside. give it another go..

ok I gave it another go

I tried the medicine bottle "push n turn", but the MINI's lock mechanism doesn't cooperate. I tried using the acutator to my advantage, but it has a torque-limiting rachet in there, arrggghhh!

They definitely do not pull off or turn off; I'm definitely lost now. Solution at this point: E-mail Moss and ask!

Next Chapter soon!
[edit] E-mail sent to Moss Motors tech department. Also, Freedom Design's webpage makes no note of the installation technique (of course!)

I also purchased the same item at Mossmotors in Santa Barbara (I live there) and I had to take them back because I couldn't find a way to take the original ones off. Moss Motors did not know how to do it either :???: . If anyone finds out how please post. Thanks

Welcome to MCO amilgarcia!

That's too bad about these pulls, looks like unless Moss found a way, they're kind-of a dead product

I'm feeling a refund coming on if they can't tell me how to install them ops:
I'll wait a few days for them to reply to my e-mail before striking judgement!

Hey get the refund. I went through this a few months ago and the only way is to remove the door. The early production MINI's had the screw off type of pulls but that change after June production.

How big is the hole in the bottom of them? Is it big enough to fit over the existing pulls? If it is, maybe it's a case of pulling the trim ring and sliding them on. Have you looked down it to see if it's threaded? Geez, it's hard to analyze something from one picture.

the billet door pulls are weird indeed. The hole is not big enough to go over the stock plastic pulls, but the hole seems too big for a typical steel-pole for door pulls ops: there is a two-stage hole in the billet pull, and it's so far recessed I can't tell if it's threaded or what!

Ughk, I about give up on these things

--> Nobull, what did you have to do exactly to get these on after taking off your door panels???

If Moss can't tell you how they work, send them back for a refund. I saw someone mentioned that the early models screwed off. If this is true, and the later ones don't Moss needs to clarify their catalog listing.

Have experienced the same problem. No way in hell to pull the door lck pulls off!! Have been speaking with Keith at Moss Mini, and they have yet to install any on their vehicles. He is checking to see of R&D will allow him to tear into a mini to figure it out. New information is to be forwarded to me on 4/18. We'll see or we'll send them back.

The problem is not the hole. The OEM door lock pull is installed with glue. You need a overlay and the chrome surround.
You can find it in our shop....interior .

I received the door lock pulls from Moss Mini today. I am very disappointed with Moss Mini - they rated the install as "easy" in their lastest cataloge which I received this week. The istallation is in fact very involved, requiring the removal of the door panels and messing with the locking mechanism. I am not going to remove the door penals and spend more than a hour to install the pulls but will be retuening them.... but I am already on the lossing end having to pay for the shipping and handling charges.... make we wonder if Moss is doing this on purpose to make money out of the handling charges. :???:

Don't buy the billet door pulls from Moss!!! They DO NOT FIT!

I'm not pushing an agenda, this is simply product that doesn't fit. I have had excellent service from Moss in the past, just so you know.

Regards,
Ryan

On the contrary, they fit..... sort of...

Here's pics of my install

But MossMini is being deceptive in that this is not a 1star install...

See my door lock pull DIY on MINI2 on what it takes to do this.
