Downtube pad?

Does anyone make a pad out of leather or some of that fancy memory type foam for the downtube on the driver's knee side? I forgot how numbing and painful the downtubes can be. Thanks

I also have a downtube pad works great...easy on your right knee. Contact Pete at www.myminiparts.com, his catalog has lots of good stuff. Mine is not real easy to see, but it's there.

One of my favorite mods. MyMINI great to work with. I can't imagine driving a MINI without the pad.

Wow thanks for the quick response guys!I was checking out the MyMini exhaust the other day, guess I should have browsed the rest of the catalog. Is it worth getting the bigger one or does the small one work just fine? It doesn't stick out very far and make you feel cramped does it? Thanks!!

If you need something fast and inexpensive just go down to the hardware store and buy a 3' length of foam pipe insulation probably 3" diameter. Cut it to length and wrap it around the post. Cost is about $3.00. Not leather but the color and price is right and it is easily removable.

Good thinking, I did the same thing on my go-kart when I was 12. Now where is the nearest home depot...

I have the shorter one which I bought, didn't like and never fitted. You can have it for the shipping cost if you want it.

The foam idea is great, but I would like to just get that downtube moved over to the right about 3 inches. Wish I could just heat it up with a heat gun and mash it over some. Maybe this should be my next mission... hummm. I'll probably ruin a dozen downtubes trying to do this... hope they are affordable.

I got a black foam/fabric mousepad and cut it to shape. It's even smaller than the ones commercially available....in fact, it's custom fit to where I hit the downtube given my seat position and such, and since my seats are cloth, the look is spot-on.

It may be a comfort issue for some, but it's actually a wear spot for me. My sweaty legs in summer shorts were creating problems for the downtube paint. The pad was/is an elegant solution.

I actually tried the downtube pad out that I got from GBMINI and I did not like it either. It got a little scuffed in the process of installing and trying it out (only the part you don't see that is shoved up inbetween the downtube and dash). Who wants it for shipping cost if I can find it in the garage?
