miniaturetrailer.com group buy???

These products are great, I can't wait to get my hands on them. This vendor has been listed on NAM for a couple months now and people who have purchased these products so far seem very pleased. I sent an email to Brent at http://www.miniaturetrailer.com/ and he is willing to give a very nice 20% discount if we can get enough interest. The magic number is $3000. The link below is to another thread discussing these products.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=60569
Regular pricing, INCLUDING SHIPPING, (discount prices):
Custom Painted, MINI color matching trailer..$875.....($700)
Trailer Hitch............................................$ 325.....($260)
Draw Bar w/ Trunk Bag...............................$80.......($64)
Wiring Harness..........................................$ 85.......($68)

This hitch is hidden, the receiver comes out of the reverse/fog light spot. Light, clean, and a great deal if we can get this together. AutoX, roadtrips, or just to blow peoples minds that these cars can pull something. Lets get a list going!

I'm interested in a trailer hitch for a bike rack but does anyone know the towing capacity of an MSC? I would love to trailer one of these on a cross country trip!!

Depending on your speed, fuel consumption will vary.
I pulled mine home from Lil guy, 425 miles on Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois interstate highways. At those speeds (70 mph +) milage was under 20 mpg.

I have also pulled it at speeds around 60 and it does MUCH better on fuel.
European MINI's were rated 500 Kg with no brakes on the trailer, and 600 Kg with trailer brakes. I do not know the current ratings.

On this site, look under travel stories, for "streaking across America". They had a 550 kg (1100 pound) trailer that they towed thousands of miles with the CVT MINI.

I definitely have interest, but I have a few more questions to resolve before I sign up for a hitch. I not only need to pull a small trailer, but I also have a 1 1/4" receiver bike rack that I used with my previous street car. This bike rack uses a bolt to attach to the receiver and not a pin (i.e. the pin hole is threaded, not even allowing the use of a receiver pin if I wanted to). I am very appreciative to Tom for his detailed pictures of the installation of this hitch (linked in the thread listed in post 1), but still cannot tell from his pictures whether this hitch design will allow me to reuse my old bike rack.

Greg, Brett or others here, what kind of clearance is there to get your fingers in there to thread a bolt into the receiver pin hole, instead of using the standard receiver pin? Can you get at it from the bottom, underneath the bumper? Or is there a way to pop out the rear right plastic faux bumper mesh to get at this area? Maybe this question is best asked to Brett directly, just thought I would ask here first.

Thanks,

ben

I would be interested in getting a hitch added on my MCS '06, but i think i should get my MCS first, dont you? its coming in May.

I would be willing to get all the things listed but the actual trailer, because i'm not sure if i need that specific one...

This is my plan, I want to get a roof rack, so I can carry my canoe (14ft long, alluminum), i know i know.. a canoe? I get a real big kick out of people seeing me driving with a canoe on a small car, and yes I do go canoeing :D, but i also plan on buying a new canoe sometime that is 10 or 12ft long, and I would also like to be able to have a trailer to be able to carry my extra stuff.. be it camping equip, or fishing equip. whatever... or even a moped :D, and I also have a bike rack that attaches to a back of a hatch, so i could even use that...

Now i just want to get a picture with all this stuff and show people, :D its always a grand site :D

Good question. I see from your signature you have a 2006 MCS. If you do not have a rear fog light, you will have plenty of clearance to thread the bolt in. If you have a rear fog light, then the hitch is a different model and it sits back farther in the bumper making it pretty difficult to get to a threaded bolt. A hitch pin, not a problem, but a bolt, especially frequently will be tough. Impossible, probably not, but it will be tight. Remember, with a hitch pin there is room to fit it in, so a bolt should too. But having to twist the bolt in may prove challenging unless you have small hands. Could I suggest a new bike rack, the 3 bike carrier linked on my site from www.nashbar.com is $79 plus $13 shipping. Not a bad price.

I am actually interested in getting the Trailer Hitch for my bikes. However, I am not sure how much work it will take to install the hitch since I am not handy.

I think it is about time to wrap this thing up. Anybody else interested? No reason to let this go on forever, time to see what we can work out with the vendor since we haven't met the goal.

FREE INSTALLATION ( one only )

If any of you live in NorCal I will install your hitch for free. I will only do
one ( 1 ) for free, first person to have their hitch in hand or have it drop
shipped directly to me will get the free installation.

Why free? you ask:
I need to get a first hand look at one of these hitches.
(Miniaturetrailers hitch only) I have seen, held & installed
most of the others.

Have references.

I have installed 9 Sport-Links and know
the exact procedure to mount either.

Just for your information etrailer.com sells the wiring kit that I install
#31824 Powerline and #31827 Installation kit for $64.89 delivered.
I strongly urge you to use this set-up to insure no overload to your
cars wiring...potential hazard to your computer & warranty..

Naturally all warranty maters are at the discretion of Mini.

I would like your opinions. Do you guys want to see what discount the vendor is willing to offer now, or should we wait until we meet the goal? It may take another month or so the way things are going. Let me know.

If it's not too late I would like to get on the list for a trailer with storage bins and a motorcycle rail, plus all the hitch stuff.

Thanks for this info. I've been looking for what parts to buy, and this is exactly what I was looking for.

Just an opinion...I installed one of these on my personal after meeting Brent ( he is local to us in Ohio) and have been thoroughly impressed. Brent even let us borrow his custom trailer to take our storefront and displays down to the Dragon. It was a dream, even maxed with out 2 10x10 tents, 6 gridwall slats, 2 VERY large tubs full of product and more!. The install was clean and simple, no surprises. We currently have the Miniaturetrailer line on our website and hope it does well...it's pretty well designed and engineered.

If you do frequent changes of the drawbar or attachments it is a bit hairy to get both hands behind the bumper but it's nice to put the cover or light back in and not see any hint of a hitch....
