MINI Cooper + Mac Mini???
Hello! This is my first thread but I've been a member for a while now. I haven't even ordered my MINI and I'm already excited by thinking about how I want to mod my MINI.
Yesterday, I googled "DIY Mini Cooper" and I found this:
http://motoringfile.com/2005/06/30/m...put/#more-4206
I've read that installing a PS2 and even maybe a Mac Mini was a possibility using the NAVI + AUX. But has anyone actually installed a Mac Mini into their MINI? I've been looking for a complete write-up and I'm pretty sure many others would love to see this as well. Anyone?
I was thinking if it was possible to install BOTH the PS2 and the Mac Mini. But don't worry, I know I might get bashed for this... but I will not be using it while driving, of course. I want to install the MM for usage on campus - Wireless Internet

Hey
I'm looking into this as we speak
the only problem i see is
on how to power the Mac mini reliably.
There's a company from Japan (http://minidock.jp/en/index.html)
that have an adapter already for certain cars
very ingenious and simple.
but I think is going to be too big for the mini
plus it will stick out too much.
I'm looking forward to see if this can be done
please keep me updated if you find any other information
I can get the Macmini at my cost if the project takes off
(I'm an Apple dealer)
so maybe we could install the very first Macmini for the Mini
regards,
Charles

Just find a little VGA LCD monitor that will fit the space occupied by the Sat Nav screen. Maybe one off of a portable DVD player.

Well, I've been researching myself. I've found a few links that contain a lot of information as to how to install it. But the mp3car.com link is talking about installing an LED screen with the macmini. I'd actually want it to go through the NAVI.

Here is a Mac Mini fully installed in a GTi. iPod dock, LED screen, and even a power button..

from what i understand the current satnav software for OS X is fairly annoying. the guy who did the mini/mini install said as much (route66).
i've been working with google maps a lot lately and it should be pretty easy to create a shell script (maybe even an apple script) that would transmit the coordinates from the GPS unit in to google maps. then using the voiceover feature of tiger have it read the directions. the problem in the mini would be no or difficult to obtain internet connection. and the directions google prints out are not suited for vocal driving instructions.
i think at the end of the day you could cobble something together without too much effort, but it would fall short of the built in sat nav software.
i briefly flirted with the idea, but realized that 99% of the functionality i wanted could be achieved with an iPod Video. so i bought a new one specifically for the mini (cooper) that will hold my music library down converted to 128. the next step would be to investigate using something like NavTV to see if i can't get the video out working.
