I really like the MOMO Race Airleather Shift ****. Is there anything unique to the MINI I need to know about doing this? I seem to recall with the VW's there was a little adapter necessary to make the shift boot fit nicely.

Actually it is somewhat involved in making the Momo **** fit the MINI gear lever. If you look at the MINI lever closely, you notice the shaft flares larger from the top of the boot to form a seat for the standard **** to fit down on. The Momo **** is designed to slip down on straight lever shaft, and be tightened with three set screws. In order to hide the set screws, it has a collar that slips on the shaft first (below the ****) then screws up onto the bottom of the ****, covering the set screws. The design is great, however the flared seat on the MINI shift lever prevents the collar from sliding down the shaft far enough to allow the **** to go on completely (the collar has to go down on the shaft further than the final position of the ****). My solution was to dremel and file down the flared section enough for the collar to slip further down the shaft, then installing the Momo **** as it was designed. The shaft is plastic, and shapes very easily. I also shortened the shaft a bit to make the taller Momo **** fit in the same postion as the stock ****. The **** postioning was such that all the file marks were hidden under the **** or collar. At the same time, I installed the Moss leather shift boot, and positioned the top of the boot right up against the bottom of the ****, so no shaft shows. Made for a very clean install.

Thanks for the great explanation.

Do you have any pictures of it installed?

The pedals in that pic look great, who makes them? And is there an aftermarket shift **** that is a direct replacement without and modifications necessary?

The pedals are Hamman.

My major requirement is that the aftermarket **** have a leather top since that's where my hand contacts the ****. The metal gets pretty cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

My camera went belly up yesterday, so I can't take a good photo of the **** install. However

That should link you to a photo of my boot and **** install as posted on page 5 of this forum.
