Steering Wheel Hub Adapter

Does any company make an adapter for a new wheel for the mini?

can you still bypass the airbag like with when you remove the seats?

Ive got a new MOMO sheel lined up and id like to know if they at least have an adapter before i have to go make something....

Funny you should ask, I have been researching for the last couple of hours now. I want to do the same thing. So far I have found out these facts and if anyone can add or correct me please feel free to do so.

I doubt if any US retail outlet will ever sell a hub adapter for the mini due to the fact that they would be assisting in making your car illegal from a safety ( no airbag ) standpoint. Way too much liability for that unfortunately. From what I have been able to find out that leaves us with two options. Apparently some have had good success with modifying a BMW E-36 hub and a spacer of some sort. The other option is a company in Japan that makes a hub adapter which also modifies the air bag circuit. This item costs about $ 280 but they do not ship here . If you find anything out please let me know .

I know where to get them, Mini Cooper specific. I'll post back here in a short while with info.
I know someone who is racing with one and I also have one on order.

I'm just curious. . . . does this "quick disconnect" allow one to switch back and forth between a racing wheel and the stock wheel with airbag?

That would be neat for those who would sometimes like the racing wheel for the track but are sensible enough to want an airbag for daily driving. . .

That's a great find onasled. I'd love to fit a Sparco wheel on the MINI but I'm not going to remove any airbags in the process.

That's the problem with new cars...unless your going to fit it for track-only duty, there's no way to replace things like wheels without really compromising everyday safety. I helped my friend replace the wheel in his 1st gen MR2 and it dramatically helped the steering input and feedback (not to mention increase the effort from the non power assisted steering )

that looks nice, but the price is still too high for them.

how come sparco can make the for 56 bucks a pop?

quick disconnect is to ease in getting in and out of the car if it had more than a 4 pt roll cage.

all it does is allow you to pull a pin and release the wheel from the column.

as randy and i discussed, as long as we have a harness that doesnt stretch far enough, not having an auirbag there ont make much of a difference.

you still have a passenger bad for the passenger and you still have side curtain air bags.

Great research guys I have been thinking of doing something along these lines for a long time. I hate the stock wheel after driving a car with a alcantara cover.

I finally got my Momo wheel installed using the quick release hub adapter that Onasled sourced. The install was very easy and I have a really trick idea for making the buttons on the wheel functional but it will be a bit before I get that rigged. This was just a quick shot as i finished up the basic install, please forgive the poor fitting under dash panel I justslapped it up there to take theshots .
