I used the info which i received from the first post in this thread and ordered it from Terry's. It was about $20 to the door as I recall.

Randy:

I appreciate it, but no thanks necessary! Isn't that why we're all here? Besides, I got the idea from others on this forum anyway, so I shouldn't get all the credit.

I just did mine with electrical tape just to see if I liked it - I definitely do, and I'll be doing the 3m tape when I get it.

I posted a few pics in this thread -

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=60731

I was wondering how the tape is holding up in car washes and other things from the people who have had it on awhile?

Also, does anyone know what would be involved in getting the actual chrome beltline trim changed to black, so it would be a bit lower maintenance? I'm not looking forward to re-applying tape every year or so -

I did mine in early October. Having gone through the rainy season and numerous car washes (all hand washes with Zaino) I can safely say that the tape looks the same as it did when it was installed. I think one of the problems with "cracking" people had was due to not removing the clear top layer of the tape. The vinyl itself should last a few years.

That said, I'll let you all know when/if it needs to be redone.

Thanks! I'll probably just stick with the tape then. I wish it was available somewhere locally, as I can't wait to put it on!

Just an idea, find out where your body shops places buy their supplies, I'd be willing to bet that they have a local store that carries a large line of 3m products. I went to all the "parts stores" with no luck, but once I found out where the paint store was, bingo!

BTW, I've had mine on for a few months now and I've been using the lazer wash type car washes and have no problem with any part of the tape.

I was going to call around, but I ended up just getting it from the link at the top of the thread - they are in FL so I should have the tape today!

Howdy,

I blacked out the ole beltline a while ago but never got it into this thread. It's the 3m tape - not flat though. I think I would like flat better, but the semi-gloss looks good next to the window and the glossy paint. I can't imagine my car without it now.

Here's the boy:

I decided to go with the low-gloss because it matched the rest of the trim. But I doubt it makes that much of a difference. Yours looks great. Plus, for another $20 and 20 minutes, you can change it! You can even try semi gloss red!

Did mine this weekend... Thanks for the help, and tape TWISTER! :D Anyone know an easy way to pull off the protective clear strip? The gloss is just sticking out too much for my taste.

In my opinion, you HAVE to remove the clear strip, as it will start to crack and look really nasty if left in the sun for a few months or so. I cut my sections of tape about 2" longer than needed - I adhered the tape to the car, then worked the clear top layer loose with a razor blade, then pulled it off the section I was working on. I then used the razor to trim the tape so it would sit perfectly at the end of each section, right at the endcap. I actually used the endcap as a razor guide. Be careful not to let the razor slip though - you will scratch your paint. I held a towel just below where I was trimming the tape to protect the paint.

If you've already trimmed the tape, it will be difficult to get the clear layer off without damaging the black vinyl layer - you could peel a corner off, then try and get a razor in there to work the clear layer loose. It's not easy. Good luck!

Crap... I'm going to have to re-do the front anyway so I'll know for that piece. I could probably trip up some of my other edges better too so maybe I can use what little excess I have to get that strip off. Thanks for the tips V70R.

Apply the tape slowly and make sure you don't stretch it too much. I used an Xacto knife to cut the ends off. Take your time when you go around the turns at the corner of the car (A pillar and C pillar).

Here's how it turned out:

I got a set of stock black side vents and I'm going to paint them body color and install black side marker lights from Out Motoring.

Still need to tint the windows and get some wheels .....
Your blacked ot ride is beautiful...
ever thought about black wheels

Thanks.

That was an old photo. I've since added black ASA AR1s (black w/polished lip).
