I just purchased a full 5 piece set of alloy patina dash off a 2003 MINI from a seller on ebay [ducgirlsps]. I had intended on having the pieces painted and then install them in my 04 MCS. So, all the pieces arrived yesterday and all looked fine. Then I get to the airbag dash piece. The straps where cut and only 1/2 of the piece was intact. So I contacted the seller and here is the kicker. She states and I quote, "When we install this again we just put a dab of silicone on the piece to hold it to the dash". I'm think, so if the air bag goes off it will impale the passenger with the dash piece blown off at a great force! Please do not but anything MINI related from this seller. She has agreed to refund the the money. I just don't want any of you to have this happen.

 

Don't people ever think that what they sell will be used. I mean come on people

Wouldn't the dash piece come off when the airbag goes off anyway?

I mean, all the aftermarket dash kits stick on top of the original panels anyway, so you know this would happen regardless of weather you siliconed it on or just used the sticky pads that come with the kit

Or was this an original replacement dash kit?

I've got a whole set of the Alloy patina dash. I replaced with Silver.

And no, the straps are not cut! Whoever cut them must have been retarded because you can take them out if you think for literally 2 seconds.

Seems to me that she did the right thing in refunding your money... so a warning buying used dash parts is warranted, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy from her in the future if she stands behind what she sells.

The factory pieces are hinged on one side, rather than turning into projectiles when the airbags deploy.

If all aftermarket dash sets stick on instead, that's probably a good reason not to install one.
