MINI Spray paint in a can

Hi,

I saw this info posted in the faq section of mini2.com.

I have recently purchased a black abs unpainted replacement boot handle for my '04 PS/B MCS.

I want to get this part but my dealer here in New Jersey says that the part number is no good.

Is this part only available outside the US???

I would love to be able to get the Black paint and clear coat directly from Mini.

If anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not authentic MINI paint but supposed to be dead on match.

I just found this site:

http://www.paintscratch.com/

They've got all the Mini color codes and everything is custom made to your order.

I added everything I need and here's what the cost came out to:

Paint Color===> BLACK
Vehicle: 2004 Mini Cooper S VIN: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Paint: Black Clearcoat also roof 668 (Add Flex)

_____Qty____________Description _______________ Cost ____ Total
1___ 12.5 oz. ___ Basecoat Spray Can ____________ 29.95 ___ 29.95
1___ 12.5 oz. ___ Clearcoat Spray Can ____________ 15.00 ___ 15.00
1___ 12.5 oz. ___ Primer Spray Can_______________ 15.00 ___ 15.00
1___ 2 oz. ______ Rubbing Compound Bottle________ 3.50 ____ 3.50
1______________ Sandpaper Pack ________________ 2.50 ____ 2.50
2______________ Tack Rag______________________ 1.75 _____ 3.50
1______________ Wax and Grease Remover________ 1.80 _____ 1.80
1______________ Acrylic Lacquer Thinner___________ 1.75 _____ 1.75

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

______________________________________ Total Handling ___ $10.95
______________________________________ Grand Total: _____ $83.95

Now I'm thinking of doing my dash too as I hate the alloy patina.

If you call your MINI service they should be able to get you factory paint because Moss MINI Sells it. I have factory Solid Gold MET. (859). Made in Germany...

Hi,

Maybe I'm blind but all I can see on Mossmini.com is the touch up paint in the little 12ml bottles. I'm looking for the spray paint can...

One thing to consider is a major paint store like Porter Paints.

They sell a glass jar type aerosal setup. You thin the paint as you would with a spray gun, fill the jar, screw on the top and spray away. I don't remember how much to cut the paint, but it would increase the 12ml amount. The setup was under $10 as far as I remember.

With a spray can, how hard is it to achieve a finish like the one in the pic? That looks near perfect.

I was thinking the same thing - that pic looks pretty awesome. The faq on mini2.com didn't mention anything about priming the part....

In any case, I ended up ordering from www.paintscratch.com. I could have gone to autozone and gotten some duplicolor paint for $5.50 a can but I don't think it would match and the quality probably wouldn't be as good..

But I will post once I receive me paint!

yah, i would definitely prime it, and then sand the primer with a very high grit sandpaper. Let us know how it goes

I don't know what's up with that Cool New company. I had a grip of money that I was trying to spend there but I couldn't get the a-holes to return my email or phone calls. They spend a fortune on ads in GoMini every month but I guess they don't need business.

This might be a stupid idea....but maybe talking to their UK division might be better? They are mainly run in the UK, and the US site has had problems for a while now.

Sorry to hear about that. Doesn't sound like sound business practiace to a) put ads out b) not accept customer orders and c) not have a working website!!

I wonder if I can use these for my wheel arches after proper prep is done. Any info on this?

Unfortunately, so far it seems that this part is unavailable in the US...and I was Prestige Mini today (Mahwah, NJ) and spoke to my SA Bill....And he guessed that it was probably due to emissions regulations that the aerosol cans were banned here.

Once I get my paint from paintscratch.com, I will paint the black boot handle. Then I think I'll tackle the dash (will have to get more paint) and then I'll try the wheel arches and bumper trims if all goes well initially. My paint is on its way....

I was definitely wondering about the arches....some audi and VW owners paint their valences with this method (touch up paint) and it works well. And quite cheap

I bought some paint from paintworldinc.com. Pretty nice match. Painted my dash to match the VR, and it even had the metallic flake.

Has anybody painted the alloy patina dash? I'm sure someone has. Should I sand it down completely so that pure plastic shows? I can't tell you how much I can't stand it. The trade off for not waiting 4 months for the car.....

The guy who did my dash (silver) only used "scotchbrite" on it. Seems to have stuck so far.
